Hi,

My name is Sarrah, 26yrs old and while I have posted a few things in other people's thread, I have never introduces myself.

My chronic pain is caused by endometriosis and a right ovary that seems to enjoy making my life miserable. Currently I take 1-2 vicodin every 4 to 6 hours as needed and if the pain gets to bad my doc admits me into the hospital to get it under control. I am currently trying to decide if the misery of menopause at 26 and the after effects are less then being dependant on the darned little pill to get through life. Without it I live in a 8-9 pain scale world and with it I get to be about a 5. My gyn is the one who takes care of my pain rx's and I am debating seeing a PM but am afraid they won't take me seriously since so many women are told "it is just the price of being a women, take some advil" and are left to deal with the horrible pain.

Other info on me. I suffer pretty bad anxiety after a surgery where I woke up before I could breath on my own. I have IBS-D my PCP suspects fibro but won't make a decision on it.

Hi Sarrah, welcome!

Seems we have some same issues. I have suffered from endo for many years. I am currently 35 yrs old and still dealing w/ it all. I have had endo removed 3x, twice laperscopically, and once laperotomy (open inscision through my csection scar). I deal w/ chronic ovarian cysts, mostly hemmoragic which are blood filled and also require surgery to be removed or cleaned up if the rupture. I lost 1/3 of my left ovary due to two cysts on it that twisted the ovary. It no longer works, so i don't grow cysts on that one anymore. I was in the hospital a few months ago for pain control as a result of a cyst on my rt. ovary that ruptured. I currently have a new cyst on the rt. ovary that will be checked out this comming monday...

my endo grows crazy. It usually attaches to other organs causing pain from organs being pulled together. I go as long as i can stand the pain before i have surgery. I also have Ulcerative colitis and have pain related to that....I take percocet for chronic pain related to a foot injury that is usually off the charts as far as pain goes. I used to take Anaprox for the endo pain when i cycled but cant' take it anymore due to the UC.

i would think that a PM doc would treat you as long as your gyn sent the proper info/papers. Have u ever used anaprox??? I see ur using the pill, but has your doctor talked to you about maybe using something that will stop your cycle all together? My ob/gyn put me on depo prevara when i was in my 20's. His line of thought was that if i dont' cycle, i don't produce more endo and hence preserve my organs for a baby when i was ready. He was right. I never had to have surgery while on depo. Sadly, i did suffer 3 yrs infertility related to my organs.

I will be looking into having a partial hyster soon. I can't keep getting cut open and i have already finished my family.

I hope that you can hold off on this. There are things that you can do....good luck

I am not on BCP's and before my hysterectomy had tried a whopping 14 different kinds before I call it quits on that line of treatment.

Right now I currently have a large complex cyst on my remaining ovary (right) and am fighting tooth and nail to not have the whole ovary removed. The sad thing is this cyst popped up only a month after a surgery to remove one of similar size and type from the same ovary. If you ever want to talk about a hyster let me know and please be warned that it is not always a cure for endo and the downtime and recovery is NOTHING like a lap.

sorry, guess i was very preoccupied w/ my two kids when i read ur post ....sorry!

Did your hyster stop your endo? I do have endo that is growing outside my uterus, so i know hyster would not solve that problem. Guess i should have said that i would be considering a oopherectomy soon, rather than a hyster...sorry for the confusion.

anyways, sorry ur dealing w/ a cyst right now...do u know the size of the one u have now? do ur's grow large? sorry to hear that ur new one is on the heals of one that u just had surgery for!

Don't worry about it!

The hyster got rid of the adenomyosis (edno that grows in the uterus wall) but the stuff that is coating my other organs is still there. It is an estrogen feeding disease so untiil it has its supply of "food" cut off it can and possibly will continue to grow.

My current cyst is "softball sized" according to my doc. Add all the adhesions from so many surgeries and I am a ball of yuck and scars in there. My next sugery has to be a incision instead of a lap because they are so bad.

Have you tried Lupron? It is a miracle cure for some people.

Ekkorose and the others,

I feel so very badly for you all. This is quite a debilitating disease. I know about it because I am a nurse, but have not suffered from endometriosis or cysts or other types of GYN problems in the past, thank goodness. But I know many many women do and it is just awful to have your lives interupted by the pain that way.

Ekkorose, I hope you are able to have children when you want to and I hope they find a solution for you to manage your pain in the best way possible. You are between that rock and hard place, aren't you?

Well I am glad you introduced yourself and know that you are so welcome here.  There are many who care about you already and I speak for them when I say, we hope you continue posting.  We want to get to know you even better.

LUPRON = raving, madwoman!!! LOL had to stop it after using very breafly years ago....I am currrently not permitted to use any meds that have any hormones in them due to my high risk statis for estrogen feed breast cancer. Seems obvious that i make alot of estrogen already...

yep, sounds like u grow big cysts! LOL, softball sized...my ob/gyn always refers size to fruit! lol...the last hemmoragic cyst i had as size of an orange (a small orange to be exact)..ha ha....and the last ruptured cyst was a little over 8cm. I know i have another one due to pain, and missing period for 9 weeks (yes, did say 9 wks), pregnancy test is neg.

I know those adheasions suck to! It's really a catch 22 w/ surgery anymore! I'll tell u, it really makes for a LONG, SLOW, SCARY, c-section while awake...lol

Is the surgery u r refering to a laperatomy? rather than laperscopically??? As i mentioned, i had one open inscsion using my csection scar, and actually had to make it bigger due to the adheasions blocking view and fear of nicking a inflamed bowel from my UC. Recovery for that was still not as bad as my csection, however, it is obviously much worse than a lacerscopic procedure. I hope u will not have to endure yet another surgery!

I would def. think that w/ ur history, that you should be able to seek treatment w/ a PM group! I wish you luck!
I see my gyn this monday for u/s to check the new cyst, praying it is a functional cyst so i can just hope to cycle and rupture it on it's own...guess only monday will tell!

Hi everyone, I'm Peter and I'm 44 years old from South Florida. Can't remember the last time I posted on a forum but what the heck. I suffer from general, social and panic disorders as well as some mild depression(mostly situational). I also suffer from chronic pain due to back injuries. I'm in a pretty good place lately due to some medicines and treatments that are really helping but it would nice to know I have somewhere I can go when things get tough again as I'm sure they will. I hope I could also be of some help to some of you as I've had some of these ailments for 25 years. I've had addictions to painkillers and benzo's in the past which I have under control for the last few years. Anyway, enough rambling for now. Just wanted to say hey... :-)

Welcome to the HW forum. And Ekkorose, I apologize for not welcoming you - but consider this a belated hello!

Peter, you are in the right place, especially since the Healing Well site has several different sections - including for Anxiety disorders and Depression, as well as Chronic Pain. Feel free to post to any or all of them, and you can do a quick switch by using the Quick Jump menu at the top of the page. That being said, I think it would be better if you started your own thread (topic) and introduced yourself to everyone. This thread in particualr is a geared to some issues related to gynecological problems, so you may not get a good introduction to the whole forum! Just start your own topic and introduce yourself (you can cut and paste this post).

Again, welcome.

Boy, can I emphathize with you and all you on the board with 'cramps' and other gyne pain!

In 1994 (I was, um..42 years old then) I finally had a hysterectomy.

Previous to this, I'd had increasing painful cramps, going all the way back to high school, where a time or two appendicitis was suspected). I was uninsured during the most painful times, and was begging and borrowing strong pain meds from anyone I could. Pain control was not acceptable for the uninsured, they can suffer, I guess, for I was neither offered pain control, nor could the surgery be scheduled until either a) I had insurance b) there was pre-cancer, or c) bleeding copiously - unfortunately (or fortunately, I guess?) none of these criteria were met at the time.

Then, I got a job in 1994 that offered benefits, and I didn't just walk, I leaped into the doc's office that recommended the hysto and scheduled it fast before I could change my mind (or the company, already talking layoffs could act). The relief after the surgery was humongous! I spent a week on epidural PCA, vomiting 24-7 (not sure if it was the pain med, a flu bug or what - they never DID figure out, and some idiot doc decided to take my IV out the 3rd post-op day while I was still vomiting. Even that didn't deter my glorious mood that the pain was GONE! I was past, at that time, child-bearing age, so you might want to consider carefully - given you're 26. Can you get a 2nd opinion from a teaching hnospital in your area?
