Threw a Party Yesterday. How did I do that??

Yesterday I had scheduled a luncheon at my house for six of my daughter's closest friends to plan her second baby's shower.  It's a girl, by the way, and I am soooooooooo excited.  I have my Kelly girl and she is four years old and my pride and joy.

Well I write about this here because, I cannot do housework physically so I am suffering the day after, but boy was it a lot of fun. 

I brought out my good china and flatware and rolled up luncheon meats and bought fruit and veggie trays and purchased some new drinking glasses and had a ball.  I haven't been able to use these items for years, since my fibro got really bad, so it was a little bittersweet for me.  I used to enjoy having the family and friends over for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, but then I became so incapacited that we switched it all to my daughter's house, so my china and good items lay dormant in the china hutch.

I had spent three days cleaning my living room, kitchen and preparing for the party.  I got up at 5:30 am the day of.  I have had to do a few things on my feet and then I have to sit down for a while, then back up and so on.  Just unloading the dishwasher and reloading is a trial, so I usually use my wheelchair.  It helps a lot.

Well, the girls were impressed with the spread and we went to the party store afterwards to look at the theme I had chosen and they all loved it.  We bought the invitations and they will return next Saturday to write them all out.  Hope my house stays clean til then.  LOL tongue

So glad you had such a great time. Sometimes it's hard to know if the "tradeoffs" are worth it, but in this instance for you there seems to be no doubt! yeah

And however much dirt accumulates in one week (can't possibly be that much!) let the young, healthy women get used to the fact that houses aren't perfect - neither yours nor theirs! smilewinkgrin If anyone is too bothered, hand them the broom and dust cloth! tongue

Savor what you can, and relax for at least next weekend and forget about cleaning!

Good on you Lindaloo,

I know that the pain must have been hard to deal with but I so bet the outcome was well worth it to be able to do that for your daughter and to feel like a part of things again...It is sad that we have to give up so much for our CP but its even nicer when we tell the CP to take a hike and we fight for a happy life....makes you feel a bit impowered!

I bet no one will care what your house looks like next week because I know your daughter was prob just happy to have you with a smile on your face and to be a part of this wonderful occasion.

Congrats on the new baby to come, what a blessing!

Thank you both for your uplifting words. I am happy the girls over again on Sunday evening to make out the invitations. I will try to clean a little again. It will be good for me and I will quit when I can't go any further. By the way, these are the nicest, kindest, most generous friends that my daughter could have. She is truly blessed. But then my Linette is that kind of a person herself, too. And you are right, she was glad to see me active and a part of things again.

Linda that is totally awesome. Even tho it wore you out , wasn't that a great morale booster for yourself. Sometimes we do need to plug thru and usually the end result made it so worthwhile. Its gives us some of our pride back. I know when I tempt a feat and its successful, nothing can match that shot in the arm for the old morale. Hugs, Susie

Ohhh I LOVE hosting parties! I spend a lot of time preparing the house, cleaning, shopping etc. I am usually in a lot of pain afterwards but the sense of accomplishment is worth it. It makes you feel "normal" at least for a while doesn't it?

Pamela, the theme is pink and beige and there is a silver baby rattle and the saying 'Little Angel" on the napkins and plates. We are getting mylar and pink and creme balloons. It's going to be so much fun. The actual shower is on November 8th and we are holding it at my daughter, Linette's house. She will have to scoot away while we decorate. Can't wait for this Sunday to make out all the invitations though.
