My legs often do this due to how I sit at my desk and a few other factors. I see a chiropractor and he is able to get things back to normal.

Theresa,
Ask your doctor or physical therapist to check your SI joint. That could be a contributor. I know mine goes out a lot, and it increases all the sciatic pain - although the sciatica isn't gone completely when the SI joint is in place. Fortunately, I have a PT who knows how to check it, and gently put it back in place. Plus I now wear an SI joint belt and do some exercises to tighten the ligaments that hold it in place. They don't always stay in place, though, and sometimes just simple movements get me out of alignment.

Also do some stretches to put your pelvis back in place.
Lay on your back
Put one leg flat
Put the other leg at 45d angle (making your legan upside down L from your body)
Press on leg that is up with arms while pushing it towards you
At the same time press the flat leg down
Do this for 10 sec x 3
Do both sides.
This really works for me. Will put the pelvis back in place.
Also please see a therapist as I am not a dr and give advice with caution
The same thing happens to me.
Not very comfortable.

Deb -
My PT gave me exercises to try to tighten the ligaments and I do them twice a day. The SI joint was staying in place with the exercises until a year ago when I had my back surgery. Since then it goes out seemingly for no reason. I swear sometimes just if I roll over the wrong way in bed! The belt is really just like a belt but with a velcro closure. You're supposed to wear it for about
six weeks, but I wear it fairly frequently (my PT knows this) trying to see if I can get those ligaments to tighten.
Ask your chiropractor or a PT about
ordering a belt through one of their catalogs. Then someone has to show you how to wear it - it's worn low, and can be annoying for us women every time we have to go to the bathroom (need to reposition it!). But it does help. You should start wearing it right after your chiro's put it in place.
