Good mattress for bad back?

Jennifer, I have a new mattress & box springs on my bed, but even it was a killer for me. My problem is stiffness, laying in one spot too long, sometimes I was not able to get out of ed because the pain was so bad when I tried to move. So, I went online and bought a 3 inch memory foam mattress and let me tell, its made all the difference in the world. I can now get in & out of the bed w/o major problems. Susie

JenPen, I would say you are overdue for a new mattress.  I got a new mattress and box springs in Sept. and am not really happy with it.  Actually, I exchanged the one I originally selected, but am not happy with the second one, either.  I wish now that I had gone to Sears and gotten what I'd had the previous 18 yrs., a Spring Air Back Supporter mattress & foundation.  I need a firm mattress and this one really was great.  I did have an egg crate mattress on it for some years, as my ex-husband and then ex-b.f. both found it too hard.  Everything these days seems to come with a "pillow top."  I don't like them at all--they just feel lumpy to my body when I lay on them--but that's what I got as that's all that Mattress Firm had in my price range.

Whatever you get, be sure there is a full refund or exchange policy at the store where you purchase it.

about 3 years about I bought a tempurpedic and I love it. It cost a lot, for sure, but I had it on a plan where I didn't have to pay anything for 2 years, and fortunately I still had money then in my savings! I got it from a local store rather than online or tv because they deliver and take it back. I think it was a 3 or 4 month trial period. I also spent an entire afternoon in the mattress store! Felt like goldilocks! I tend to like a firm mattress, too, so I got the "cheapest" (none of them are cheap!) model because it's the basic and almost the firmist, although it will soften with your body heat. It's the main place where I get relief - except for the critters that have recently invade (mice and friends !!!) but that's another story!

I think Scarred just got a sleep comfort - the one with air. You can ask her how she likes it.

The memory foam pillows are lousy, though. THey give them to you free with the mattress; one of mine is still in the box! Used it one night and that was it. They get way too soft - no neck support. But the mattress does not soften that much.

As my diseases progressed I went from bed, sofa, chair then floor. Now a super expensive sleep number bed the Sleep number King 7000# model. If you are in real bad shape this is about as good as it gets. 0 = Hard as concrete driveway. 100 = soft as down pillow. You can go to one of their show rooms and a computer will help you find your perfect sleep number. They range in price from around 800$ all the way to 9000$ with foundation.

Did you get the 3000, 4000, 5000, model? The reason I asked is they were equipped with a different air inflation station, opposed to the 6,7 and 8000 models. The pumps were faulty, not the mattresses. The maker of those "pumps" went belly-up! We did spend ALOT of money and IMHO sleeping with my spouse again is worth all the money in the world. Like the saying goes different stokes for different folks. We (I) tried the Therapeutic, Simmons Best, Space Shuttle Memory Mattress, etc....It took 2 years and around 6K for me to finally find comfort. The base moves too if you happen to wake, as I do, to allow you to shift in different positions. This comes in extremely handy for my back! Lifetime guarantee and they had financing available (I think?)
