Davy this may very well be the beginning of something new and good for you. I think we need to try and look at it that way. I think once this dr looks at your medical records she will be able to justify to herself giving you something ample to cover your pain. I know you have been on a rocky road recently with the old PCP but this just has to be better all the way around for you....Susie

Sorry I've not responded but I'm having some struggles myself. You're getting some good advice, though, so I'm not worried!

Do tell your doctor how the pain is affecting your life. Maybe even keep a pain journal. Chutz (our moderator) has a link to one, but even writing down pain levels, what activities you can't do, etc. will help, rather than as susie said get stuck on getting a particular medication.

And think about asking for a referral to a good pain psychologist. At least you'd have someone to help you work through a lot of grief and depression that goes with chronic pain.

Thank you ladies. I'm glad I found this site. You all are very nice. I've never heard of a Pain Phychologist before I'm gonna mention that to my doctor. I live in Maine. We have hardly anything here.

I just have this weekend and Monday to get through and hopefully I'll get some pain relief. These are gonna be the longest days of my life. :(

They set my app'ts 35 days apart so i too am out of some of my meds grrrrr. I have an app't on Wednesday. We will make it. At least since we found this forum we are never alone. Hang in there an hopefully on Wednesday we can both do the happy dance or shuffle. Right now I'd settle for being able to stand up straight LOL.

Hello everyone. I have some good news to tell everyone. My new PCP put me back on Vicodin. :-) I've only taken 1 pill and already I can feel the difference in the pain level.

I have to pick up the script every two weeks at her office. I think this is only until I earn her trust.

Thanks for everyone here who has given some great advice! :-) Now I just have my mom to worry about.

That's great that you're getting relief. Whether your PCP will extend the 2 week limit may depend on her office policies as well your trust. You may want to ask about the two week policy, although I wouldn't ask just yet. It's not uncommon, though, for pain patients to have to be seen every month to receive their scripts.

Hope your Mom is willing to allow someone to help her - she ultimately will have to make the choice. But it sounds like you're doing all you can be going with her. Just write some things down when you go to the appointment with her, in case either of you forget (like her symptoms, how much the pain meds are/aren't helping).

Hi Davy, wow glad to hear you were given some meds that help. It may not be real convenient to see the dr every 2 weeks for your meds but this may be her rule when she see's a new patient. She may do this to weed out abusers who knows. But like I said who cares at this point as long as you are getting the meds you need. So many drs have become so strict these days some of it I understand looking at it from their angle. But, alot of times once they see a patient being a model pain mgt patient, it makes a world of difference.

I had asked you before if your Mom had ever tried Lyrica for her Fibro. Many of the people on the Fibro forum on are it and having good results. If she has not been on it before its a shame she is not willing to try something that may help her. I have noticed lately here on tv they are really advertising it for Fibro pain. Take care, Susie
