Finally some good news!

I just got my approval letter from disability today. They are going all the way back to the day of my accident so I will be getting Medicare pretty soon too! I started to write that you have no idea how good this feels but yes, you do know! It took 4 years of fighting to get it but I finally did. Now I can buy a new house and get out of this swamp. It means I will finally be able to get a place and not have to worry about a landlord.

Also, over the weekend this couple that we are really great friends with, in fact we are all so close we think of each other as family, came over to visit. Kieth and his fiance are getting together with another guy we know and they are building us a tryke! They know that neither one of us will ever be able to hold up, let alone ride a regular motorcycle again so they are going to build us one! My first motorcycle ride after my wreck was with Kieth. He is using the front end and frame from his bike, since it was the first one I had been on, for the tryke. They have a nice cushy seat ordered for me so my hips won't get bounced all around. After all the bad times the last few years, some things are finally starting to come together for us.

To everyone that is still fighting, don't give up. You will win this fight. It just seems to take forever but we are all here pulling for you!

I can totally relate to the mental part of it. The hardest thing for me has been admitting that I need help. I was always the one giving the help and support and all of a sudden I was the one needing it. I hate to ask anyone for help for anything but especially monetary. That just made me feel so low to to do that. I have tried to work from home but I just can't sit up long enough to do anything so that went out the window too.

Everyone, please, don't be afraid to ask for the help when you need it. None of us are superhuman and we all need help now and then. I know for CPP it is often hard to get people to realize there is a real problem but just stick with it and you can do it and you can get the help you need. Our days are bad enough with pain and then we have to add the money worries too. It is unfair but we can get thru that just like we get thru every bad pain day.

Congratulations! I know there are several in our CP family who are different stages of applying for SSI, and many have been waiting for a long time like you did. Unfortunately, it is a long process, but a necessary one. I'm sure that there were places along the way where you just wanted to give up, but I applaud you for sticking it out and as you know, it is worth it.

Thank you everyone! You all have no idea how much you have helped me the past week. I was in seriously bad shape and just about ready to call it quits. Sometimes it just gets so darn hard to do anything or even think straight.

Yes, I do get Medicare and as long as I get at least one dollar in SSI I will get state insurance also. WIth our income and number of people in our house that isn't going to be a problem,lol My hubby already has his medicare card but it isn't effective until July1, 2009.

WOW!!!!  Your prayers were answered.  I'm sooooooooo happy for you.  Enjoy the Tryke!!!  The money won't take the pain away but it can open another world of finacial or insurance stress away!!!  Better then Calgone 

Congrats to you on the SS benefits. It was well worth the wait, just a shame it took all this time. I filed for my benefits back in 03 and was awarded benefits immediately. My claim was based on my crohns disease and I just knew I would be denied because they deny everyone. I did not have a lawyer involved because they don't want a claim unless you are denied. Now you can breathe a little easier. The benefits were long overdue.
