Hello all.........  Well you all know about the oxycodone.  I am on Oxycontin 40 mg 3x day and oxycodone 15mg 3x day as needed for bt pain.  I got my Oxycontin but no oxycodone 15mg.  Still have the script.  I do have bt pain and it bothers me sometimes 4 or 5 hours after I take the oxycontin.  I cannot get my oxycodone.  I told my doc and they said come in and exchange the script.  Does anyone know of an alternative to the oxycodone 15mg at least for a short bit while they get this shortage mess figured out?  I quess my doc will know but I am also concerned that he will give me another bt med and the pharmacies will be out of that to?  Please someone give me examples of alternatives to my oxycodone bt med.

I understand your concern. I am on the same combination that you are taking. The thought of being shorted my bt meds is frightening. If I were you I'd call your pharmacist. They are going to know more about the supply side of the issue than the doc will. Also, I don't know who you get your meds from but I use a small, local pharmacy where I know the gals who work the counter and the owner/pharmacist also. I used to do the chain pharmacy and gave that up a long time ago. It was nothing bur problems...one after another! You might look around for someone who's NOT a chain store. BUT>>> if you do change make sure to tell your doc that you are switching and will stay with the new one. Otherwise red flags will pop up because it may look like you are trying to get pain meds at multiple locations...even tho you're not.

It's possible you could get morphine for a b/t medication. It's cheap and very easy to get. The conversion from oxycodone to morphine is about 50% higher. So, if you were taking 100 mg of oxy you would need 150 mg of mophine to get the same pain relief. It would stop the withdrawal you'd have if you had to go without. Just some thoughts...

I know people who take percocet(usually generic) for their breakthrough pain with their OC's. The drug shortage page on the FDA site says there are no reports of oxycodone combo's.

The first time and only time this happened to me my Dr. wrote me Opana 10 mg. Of course I couldn't afford the $700 it would have cost me to get it filled...can u imagine? So, he gave me the Percocet 10 mg. Not as good, but it did help a bit...Good luck
