Constipation Problems!

Hello Boys & Girls,

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm? Do I want to bring up this subject? No, I do
not.

On I go ...

The Problem: The Senokot-S factory has been shut down by the DEA. This
is so awful of them, it's almost funny. Almost. I tried to buy it at Walgreens -
maybe other pharmacies sell it. This probably applies to all pharmacies.

This medication is one that has helped me an immeasurable amount. It has
probably kept me out of the hospital for some kind of unspeakable blockage.

I don't expect to have a million responses on this. This post will probably be
there - out in the open - with no responders. Perhaps I will be stock for
laughter?

There are also some other products that are being pulled off the shelf. Pain
in my neck prevents me from looking further (farther?)

Another PS. My husband tells me that it is NOT the DEA that pulled the
Senokot-S. Anyway .... Someone did.

You are not alone.... When I was trying the Morphine I had the WORST pain in my middle & upper back that wrapped around to my ribcage..it was sooo bad I was crying!   This went on for d  a  y  s!!! I had never had this feeling before and I was in agonizing pain!! So bad that I wanted to go to the ER.. Then, on the 4th day..it hit me!!  I was severely Constipated/Impacted!!!!  I thought I could handle it on my own.  Boy was I mistaken!!  At about 1:30 am on that Sunday I had to get my mother up and have her go to the store for gas pills, and stool softeners...Luckily for me, my mom thinks of everything and she also brought home a twin pack of enimas... It took me a good 4 hours, but I finally got some relief.  It was awful!!  I had always had constipation issues taking Methadone, but not like this... That's also the night I was spewing all over the bathroom...Remember that night?  I think you were sick as well.

 

So, remember that no matter what you are going through, we have been through it too..

'Colace' (Brand Name, from your friend and mine, Purdue) has the same [active] ingredient and I have had great results with it. I"ve never had to use a stool softener in my life, but with the meds I'm taking I was developing the same issue. I harkened back to when my mother was dying and went looking.

Apples, I eat one or two a day they have the Gala's sp? at wally world $.50 per Lb. No problems here.

Pamela that didn't get by you!

Actually PALady's idea isn't a bad one! I mix prunes and dried apricots and eat them together, but only in small amounts. I have also learned the hard way on eating to many! I have UC and I seldom have to worry about this type of problem anyway, infact this type of problem might be a welcome change sometimes especially if the UC flares up!

I looked and saw an FDA recall dated for 2004...not recently though...I saw this on a google answers thread

I do know that they have taken Fleet phosphosoda (and other types of bowel preps) off the market due to a risk of kidney damage with some preps.

As for the home remedies (what my husband uses, cuz I tend to go the other way...) lettuce(the dark green type), benefiber (he mixes it with coffee or other drink and can't taste it), apples...

He also takes a daily stool softner (non name brand...every store CVS, Walgreens, Target, Walmart seems to have a cheaper version). So here's to your smooth sailing...

White Beard: I'm hearing you...I enjoy this side effect of the pain meds...part of the reason why I take them...

Acai juice works wonders and tastes really yummy, especailly the ones from costco!!!

Becoming Undone:

As I understand it, the companies try to hush up recalled items. I haven't been
able to find anything. Haven't looked a lot yet.

The one pharmacist would only say, "It has been pulled off the market because
there were issues with the labeling and safety issues." There were signs ALL over
saying this.

I'm still going to search, this is strange.

I'm gonna be upset if I come out of this being known as Colace Tony.

Miralax is the best one going. It was origionally prescription only and was then let out to pasture. It is odorless,tasteless,colorless and doesnt change consistancy at all. You can add to whatever you want and it doesnt hurt it any. You mix it with water and it still tastes like water. I put it in my soda and never know its there.

It doesnt cramp work too fast when you dont want it to and taken at night once you find the right amount for you leaves you regulary in the bathroom each morning.

I only have to use it every other day in a small amount and no problems at all,near to normal.

Only drawback is it is still pretty expensive but the bottle lasts a long time.
