Please Help Me!

Hi SoSick and welcome to Healing Well. I am so sorry to hear that you are feeling very poorly. You sure have alot going on at one time. I am with PaLady on this one, I really doubt any of this is connected together at all. You just have several different health problems hitting you all at once.

I would address getting my depression under control better than what it is now. Also, people with chronic pain have a tendancy to have depression. Many times with the right medication it can help somewhat in the pain department. Its like they go hand in hand.

You mentioned you had surgery and also have a problem with stenosis, which is narrowing and it can cause nerves to become pinched. Surgery does not always relieve the nerve pain, it can stay the same, get worse or improve. Only time will tell in that area as nerves have to heal on their own if they are going to heal at all. Are you by chance seeing a pain mgt dr? If not, I would suggest that ask your PCP to refer you to one for an evaluation. Many times pain mgt drs can help get our pain under better control. Alot of times pain medication will not touch nerve pain, but there are medications that do help with nerve pain, its a matter of finding what will help you.

Diverticulitis can be a very wicked disease. With you just getting out of the hospital you already know that. Is your situation bad enough that the drs think surgery may be the next step?  I have a friend that has suffered probably a good 20 yrs with the flare-ups, he needed surgery and kept putting it off. He ended up having surgery and it adone laproscopic and he said he wished he had done it much sooner-would have saved him alot grief. Other than diet and staying on top of when a flare hits thats about all you can do. I do know diet is very important.

I had gall bladder surgery in 02 and it took awhile for my body to adjust after having this surgery. One of the things many end up with is diarhea for awhile.

I have multiple diseases, two autoimmune diseases and many, many health issues, yes at times we do feel that we are cursed. It takes alot of time to go through and get everything sorted out and under control.

Just know you are not in this boat alone. I would have laughed in your face if you told me 7 yrs ago my health would be in the shape its in. I would have laughed if you said I would have to take a medical retirement at the age of 49. I was one of those people that went 500 miles an hour and never stopped. I had a very full and active life.

Yes, the financial end of this deal hits us harder than anyone can imagine. Only someone in our shape can understand. When I was able to work I made very good money. My husband as well made a very good income. Our life style revolved around our income. We pretty much did what we wanted and never had to think about it. Money was not an issue, but we worked very hard to get to that point. Now, its pathetic,lol. Oh yes, I have to laugh about it. We do need laughter no matter what.

I wish you could get some answers and some help with your medical issues. Its so hard to find good drs. I have a friend with MS and oh for your sake I hope that never enters your picture. Now, if you want to talk about a hard disease to get dx'd let me tell you, its very difficult. My friend here in Tx saw over 100 drs to no avail. Finally here Mom insisted she come see this group on Florida and that is where she got her dx. She went to numerous specialist and and a teaching hospital all for nothing.  Her problems started off with loss of vision. Recently we had a man building a shed for us here at the house. He was telling me his wife had some bad health problems, MS being one. The drs dragged their feet for one year before finally telling her it was MS. She lost 80% vision in one eye because the drs were not aggressive enough in the beginning. The visial loss is permament.

Yes, you are so right, there are many more people out there worse off  than us. Thats about the only way I can help keep my perspective of things. Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

SoSick absolutely you have not failed. Your body is failing you somewhat. One thing I learned fast with ill health, I thought I had many friends, in reality I had many acquaintances and a couple of real good friends. A real friend sticks by you. The others move on to the next victim,lol. I always thought I had a relatively healthy body, I could handle sickness and then be fine, little did I know.

Whats the chance of getting your dr to try and get you on a different antidepressant? I have ben on several over the years, its like anything else, after awhile you become tolerate and they stop working.

So where are you at with the diverticulitis, are you a surgical candidate or not? I have crohns disease, chicken broth just stinks lol. I nearly gag at the thought of drinking that stuff. Mainly because thats all you can have the day before your colonoscopy to eat. lol. I am not a big jello fan, but I know when I have landed in the hospital with a flare up from the crohns, after 5 days of total bowel rest that jello tastes pretty lol.  I eat alot rice, peanut butter, no red meat, not a chicken eater, I stick mostly with veggies. But you have to be careful there because of the skins irritating things. Ain't it fun lol. I always say have you ever tried to peel a grape, You can do it, but do not be real hungry when tempting this feat. I know you have to really watch what you eat too.

So, do you have insurance and its not a real good plan and expensive? Healthcare and medication is way too expensive for most to afford without some kind of insurance.

Yes, I too take in the strays. One of my golden retrievers is a stray and he has been with me since 2000. I can open up one of the gates and he sits there, he wants no part of the street life. He is about 11 yrs old now and he is having health issues too, so we have been visiting the vet and they cost more than my dr does. He has been the very best loyal pal I could ever hope for. he is my shadow and walk in the backs of my shoes if I have on slide on shoes. He is strictly my dog, very protective guy.

I wish I could wave that magical wand for us all!!

I am sorry you are having such a hard time with mobility latly. Do you have railing on both sides of your stairs? I just cant imagine how hard it must be   It sounds as thought it is taking all you have to survive right now    

MS has very specific indicators. Perhaps one of the wonderful ladies over in the MS Forum will post a response. I would suggest, however, that you let a medical professional know that you suspect it. It is my understanding that it needs to be treated right away. The soon the better.

I don't know if you responded to what susie asked, and that was if you had seen a pain management doctor to treat chronic pain?? They can really help alot. You mention that you are on anti-depressants and seeing a psychologist? Perhpas you should should tell him/her just like you did here with us... 

 I'm having a hard time accepting my life as it is. My bipolar disorder is getting the best of me.

Im sure he/she will know of a differant path to take that might have better results. Another good resource is a pain psychologist. As they specialize in treating the many aspects that come with chronic pain.
