Getting better- first bbqin 4 years, nurvose~ need Hostess gift ideas/advice

As some of u know I've been home bound for 4 years or so with many health probs. From extreme pain from Endometriosis to virtigo etc and good news:
I'm finally starting to feel better! Meds are working, withdrawling from my pain meds and I've decided to join a Social group that does charity work etc.. Called The Order of the Eastern Star and I've been invited to a BBQ in the next little while and I'm a bit nurvose, I got sick at about 17 and I'm 23 now , I've never done anything like this before, can anyone help me withsuggeztions on a good hostess gift for a BBQ? I want to make a good impression, I don't know anyone in it and I've only met the one woman once and she was super nice, but it's hard to read whatto get her,
I know this is a little off topic but I thought it might be a nice interlude

I always think you can't go wrong with flowers.

Good luck on the day, it's great that you're getting out there again (especially as it means you're feeling better!). I'm sure it will go really well and you'll make lots of new friends.

I was thinking flowers as well but a web site I saw said that wasn't good because then the hostess will have to cut them, vause them, water upkeep etc.. The idea is , it said, was to not give the hostess 1 more job to do

Alotho I like the idea, I don't think flowers are right for a women only social group, not my style with the flowers- but I appreciate the help:)
Any other ideas??

Hi Josey.... glad to hear you are starting to feel better..... you are sooo young for all that pain.... :(

How about a glass jar with all the dry ingredients for chocolate chip cookies... you could arrange each ingredient in layers... flour, brown sugar, chocolate chips....... you could attach a recipe card saying just add vanilla, butter and eggs....

Place some fabric over the lid and purchase a cookie scoop and tie together with a ribbon.... you may also include a Silpat baking mat....

You can do pasta baskets also.... sauce, pasta, parm. cheese... place in a strainer add wooden spoon.... maybe a red and white table cloth....

Wow - some of you get so creative and artsy! I can't do any of that stuff, so if I'm not bringing a dish it's a bottle of wine for me! (I mean for the host! LOL)

Yep a bottle of wine would do the job.  Since it is a barbecue, you could give a bottle of nice barbecue sauce.  You could give a small potted live house plant.  I agree with you that you want a gift that creates zero work for the hostess.  You could also do a nice tea towel. 

This sounds like fun!  I can imagine that you are going to be nervous since you have been out of the social loop.  Just go in remembering what a wonderful person you are.  Relax and enjoy, don't try to hard.  Just be yourself and have a great time!!!
