Pharmaceutal/Prescription Resource Site & Programs

Thanks so much! Yes, I've been using that very site. I hope others read this because there really are helpful programs linked to that site. Just last week I completed applications for four medications (3 separate pharmaceutical companies, so 3 different applications). Of course, haven't yet found anything for percocet so I may have to pay for that one but fortunately it's not horribly expensive.

Now I just have to wait and see if they all come through. It takes a few weeks. And some of the meds. have to go to my doctor's office (Pfizer mandates this). It's weird because these aren't controlled substances or anything. But for my nexium I did the entire application and just had to pick up the prescription and attach it. It's amazing how much easier it is to apply for medications that aren't for pain!

So this IS a worthwhile site for anyone who doesn't have prescription coverage. Even if you do, some companies have some discount cards you can get, so it's worth it for everyone to take a look.

I'm glad that you are finding the site useful. I went to go edit the title and of course was too late.......maybe one of the mods can change it? Or the forum owner? 

There is an alphabetical list too of resources, not sure what they are all about, but I saw that huge list on the 2nd link, so maybe there is more there than prescriptions....

Anyway, I am glad that you are finding some help out there.  I wish that I could find more to help you.

The generic oxycodone 5/325's would cost me about $100 for 180 pills (6/day). Now that's not cheap, but compared to effexor and nexium - which are around $300-400 month - they are! Although effexor XR 150 is just coming out with a generic. My pharmacies don't have it in stock yet, although it's in their computers. Still, it's only going to be about $30 less than the brand name because it's so new.

If you take the brand percocet, or the 10mg's, that may be the cost differential. If not, I'd call other pharmacies and ask - even if you have to go back to your PM doc and re-do your contract.

BTW, I'm still searching for a percocet or oxycodone via some pharmaceutical outlet through pparx.org. They've got tons of links. I've found something for oxycontin, but don't want that. Still the HUGE problem will be I'm absolutely certain they will mandate it be shipped directly to the doctor, and my prescribing doctor is 3 hours away. Plus it's in a hospital system, so I'd hate to see what would happen to the mail delivery. And I'm fairly certain my neurosurgeon's office would pull the plug on me at that point. I wouldn't blame him, as he's followed me for nearly 2 years, way past most of his patients. I don't want to push my luck.

I probably will have to start stretching out the percocets and see what I can make work by substituting a tylenol for some of the tablets (yes, I know about the max. tylenol dosage!).

oops - Laurie, just reread your post as I was scrolling up, and see you do take the 10's. That's why they're more expensive, but trust me, even that amount is "cheap" when compared to some of these meds with no generics (like my nexium) that are double and triple that!

Yep PA.. I'm among the uninsured as well. Insurance had to go when the premium got to be more than my mortgage

The $20 quote was from Walmart, KMart, and Kroger. Actually, it was from everywhere except CVS, but those were the 3 nationwides that came up.

I've been using that card for almost a year now and have only had trouble at one particular CVS, where I get charged significantly more for one of my prescriptions. I don't think that has to do with the card, though. I think it has to do with a particular idiot behind the counter.

I just used the site you recommended at www.yourrxcard.com to price the generic percocet and I found the same differential you did. The lowest prices ($20.99) were at WalMart, K-Mart, Sam's Club, and a couple of others and then they started to slowly escalate at I got into the estimates from the drugstore chains. Rite-Aid I think was about $33 and Walgreens a bit higher, with the highest being $68.78 at CVS! I will use the phone to call around before I go hoping from place to place.

The rules also say anyone can use that site, including people with insurance. Can be used to help with deductibles, and, I think, co-pays. WOW!

I dont know if anyone recommended, but Costco is a great place to get medication when you have no insurance someitmes. One time I was paying for one of my migraine medications was $136.00 at most pharmacies (give or take a few dollars) and I of course had no choice but to pay. Well I decided to give costco a try once and they only charged me $36.00, $100 cheaper with no saving cards or anything. And you dont have to be a member to use the costco pharmacy, atleast not where I'm at. Just tell the people when you enter that your just going to the pharmacy, and they say ok. So I always tell people to call them first for prices before paying for your scripts out of pocket. And also those small ma and pa pharmcies are able to lower the price for you if they choose. I had one lady at one of those small pharmcies save me over $150 once.

Did you have any trouble using the rxcard site? I'm having trouble printing out a card. It's probably my older computer. I may have to go to one of my cousin's and use theirs if I can't get mine to work. Periodically I get people telling me I need to update something or other and whenever I try to do those things I screw something up! LOL

No Costco in my area either. But if I can get this card to print out the price on the percocet (generic) is very affordable.

I think I got some cards to print out. I had to do it by clicking on where it asks if you want to print out more, so I got 12 cards, but they're all the same number, so I don't know what that means! LOL Anyway, I think the problem is solved.

BTW - I just got an automated called from the folks at Astro Zeneca who make my nexium (for my Barrett's esophagus) and they said it's in the mail. WOO HOO! One down, about a hundred more to go! LOL

I wanted to add another website my pharmacist told me about tonight. It's

I was picking up a 15 day supply of effexor and already using a discount our county provides, but she suggested I go to this site and print out the discount card to see if I got a better deal. She said if I brought it in within a couple of days they would still put it through and see if they could refund me some money. 15 days cost about $75, and that's the cost it woud be with the card from www.yourrxcard.com. So I printed out the other discount card and am going to try it out. I have already sent in for what I hope will be free medications through the manufacturer, but I don't expect them to arrive for at least a couple of weeks.

If everything else wasn't so crazy and stressful in my life this might almost be fun - trying to get the best deal. And anyone can use the discount cards - doesn't matter if you have insurance, doesn't matter what your income is, etc. At least not with the cards you print out on the websites.

Bumping this up for one of our newer members who also doesn't have insurance.

I also wanted to add that as I am calling and/or going to various places (from Wal-Mart to CVS and everything in between!) I am amazed at the difference in amounts if you have to private pay for your prescription. Today I took my percocet script to Wal-Mart. It will cost me $43 for 200 of the 5/325's, and that is without any discount card. They are putting two different discount cards into the system and will charge me the lowest amount. Now CVS's cost was $105, and even though they said they would match Wal-Mart's $43 price, they would not do a discount card in addition. It was either the match OR the discount card.

Really making me wonder about the prices we pay for our medication.

Of course I also got in the mail today a returned application for my anti-depressant because my doctor failed to sign where he was supposed to. I had filled out everything else, even given them the addressed, stamped envelope, but they would not let me mail it in. This is the reason why I prefer to mail my own stuff in because I would have checked everything. Now I am about out of my anti-depressant, and will have to pay for more because the whole application has to be sent back. Makes me wonder if he signed the other application I gave him. GRRRRRRR some of these doctors are just control freaks. These Rx's are NOT for controlled substances!!!
