help with wife's pain

Hi, I'm a member of healing well and I would like to have some ideas what's wrong with my wife, she has had this pain up under her ribs for over 1 1/2 years and the pain got so bad I took her to the ER and they said it was her gallbladder and it needed to come out right now! so they took it out and it cost $11,000.00 and she still has the pain, its located right under her ribs above her stomic, it hurts to get up from sitting and if she rolls over in bed shescreems in pain, she has been constepated. she has been to 3 doctors and they have been giving her pain pills they have given her a CT, MRI, ultra sound, and they are stumped I was wondering if anyone ells has had this or might know what it is.

I have Fibromyalgia, chronic Imsomnia, Osteoarthritis. But we need to find out what is causing her pain and get it fixed, they said her Gallbladder was inflamed and there was Gallstones in it but that was not whats causing all the pain. Please ask everyone you know thay might know whats doing this, Im still waitting for my SSD to start and if she cant work we are in deep dodo, right now she is the bread and butter and we wont be able to pay the rent this month or any thing ells we have gone to the food bank at our church next week we plan on seeing an attorney to file a chapter 7 and I hate to have to do that but we have no money to buy anything.

I have a very simple point to make.

Pain pills, assuming they're opioids (Codeine, Vicodin, Percocet, Morphine etc), cause constipation in 90% of patients. If the constipation gets worse every time she takes a pill, the pain gets worse.

Was the pain in the stomach there BEFORE she started taking the meds?

thanks for the reply,, at first she had trouble with constapation she couldnt go for 3 to 4 days, she was taking exlax and it didnt work so the doc gave a stool softner and that did help a little, the pain is up under her ribs not in the stomic. she had a great deal of pain when she tried to roll over in bad and getting up out of a chair or bed, and ridding in a car was also painfull. When she was in the hospiat they gave her some stuff that flushed her out but after she got home and eat solid food she was constapated again and she still is and its been a week and she said to me today that she has only gone #2 twice We truly need to find what is wrong, we got the bill for the surgery and her 5 days in the hospital and the total is $24,000.00 and some change. as of today she stopped taking the pain pill because she got tired of the way they made her fill. We need help in more ways then I can count, we are bankrupt.

First off I am not a doctor, nurse, or any other medical pro so any ideas or advice I might have a 200% laymen.

My first thought is that her diaphragm is having spasms and certain positions make it worse. It could also be other muscles in the chest or stomach area as well having cramps/spasms.

You might want to speak to her doctor about this and getting some kind of muscle relaxer and see if it helps. If it would turn out to be more or a cramp in the muscle you can try making sure she stays very well hydrated (water really is the best for this) and also have her sodium and potassium levels checks. Low levels or either one can cause muscle cramps as well as dehydration.

As far as constipation issues go I suggest the following. More water and taking a stool softener and good old Milk of Magnesia. You can get both of these over the counter is name as well as store/generic brands. Other than the prescription stuff that they often use for surgery or GI tests I have found good old "MOM" to work better than ex-lax or any other laxative on the market.

The stomach is a little higher, anatomically than you might think!

In the meanwhile, as it's a Sunday and all, and I'm sure you don't want a trip to the ER, lots of fruit - pears especially. They're very good for constipation.

Jim - problems with the diaphragm would cause trouble breathing, no? Just a thought.
