I went to my pulmonologist, and he told me the tumor on the lower lobe of my left lung has grown 3mm. It's total size is now 14mm. So, my pulmonologist made an immediate appointment for me to see my cardio-thorassic surgeon. The cardio-thorassic surgeon then explained to me that he would make an incision in my chest and insert a scope to get a biopsy of the tumor on my lung (my pulmonologist made an educated guess that the tumor is 90% cancer). After the biopsy, if it is indeed cancer, my surgeon will proceed to remove the entire lower lobe of my left lung.

I would like any feedback from anyone who has had similar lung surgery before so I will know what to expect after my surgery. Thank you so much. :-)

I say prayers for you, I hope that it is not cancer, but if it is, I hope they have gotten it in time! Even if they get it all there is the possibility that they might want to do a round or two of chemo, it will all depend on the doctors, I keep you in my prayers, and I wish you all the best wv.girl!

I'm so sorry, but glad if they find it early enough to remove it! I can't help you much with what to expect, but maybe someone else can. Someone on the cancer forum may also be able to help.

Thank you so much PaLady and White Beard. i wanted to see if there was an alturnitive besides surgery. I had breast cancer and i dont want to be cut on anymore. I thank you all for answering me. It means alot to have someone to talk too even though you both are sick too.Love and prayers. Wv.girl

I'm so very sorry you have to go thru this as it seems like you've been through a lot already...
so you have a lot of soft hugz and prayers coming your way from me, and please keep us posted as to how everything goes
and I will be hopeing and praying it's not cancer and I wish I could answer your
post better...or had some magic words that might help....

Hi Vickie,

Oh honey, no one blames you for not wanting anymore surgery but I do not believe you have any other options. It does sound like they have caught it in the early stages even tho its growing. Unfortunately, my mom was not a surgical candidate.

Vickie did you get to talk to your nurse or oncologist on how your pain is bad and your pump dr is not addressing your severe pain? If not, please call them, they know all about pumps and should be able to help you. You should not be suffering as you are. You have my email-email me any time you want. Hugs,

Please follow Susie's advice about the pain and the pump (and calling your oncologist). It's tough enough handling what's on your plate, but to do it with more pain than you need to have...well, it's heartless. Having your pain managed will likely help you deal with whatever the future brings a little better. I'm not saying it will be easy, but if it comes down to surgery or living, the choice gets made pretty quickly. It's nothing we want you to have to go through, but we want you to be around! And I think you want to be around, too!

Do you have a therapist you can talk to to help you through all this? It can be an enormous part of your support system.

I had a good portion of my lower right lobe removed due to a tumor. Mine was benign though. Mine was removed using 3 holes and scopes. One on my back, side, and front rib area. I did have a chest tube for 3 days and stayed in the hospital for 4 days. I pray yours turns out to be benign also. Unfortunately I have had to deal with a nerve issue from that surgery too. The cartilage area of the ribs does make some strange noises/feelings after wards for a few months too. This is because the cartilage loosens when they go between the ribs and it takes a while for it to tighten back up. It never was painful, but felt really strange when I was laying down. It kind of felt like a click in my sternum when I breathed. I hope this is some of the information you were looking for.

I have no info to give but wanted to give you my support and I am sorry you are having to deal with this. Hope you have support at home while you are dealing with such a scary situation. Keep us posted!

You have been through so much! *huggs* Though I havnt any advise on or knowladge about cancer in the lung. But, I wanted you to know you are in our hearts and prayers. I just wanted to jump in and give my support! I will keep you in my prayers. And yes no ne wants to have to be cut into. I had cervical and uterus cancer I understand the feeling of another knife. Just hold in there and alway remember Medical Technology is so great now...
