I find myself awake all night and this drives my wife crazy. She is very beautiful and lovable but between the pain and the problems the last surgery caused I not only have no desire to go to bed but I can't sleep when I do. Sleep meds make it hard to wake up when I take them, especially in combo with the pain meds. ANY IDEAS?

Also, I have "breakthrough pain" and I need meds for it but I am not sure my doc would give them, and I don't know which ones work best. I already take 80mg of Methadone a day but I need something for the "breakthrough pain" that is strong and works quick. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.  Thank You

I am still up with no sleep in sight, the pain is miserable and I have taken all the medicine I am supposed to. I hate being awake like this with pain!!

I would like to say hello and welcome to HW.
I can see and understand how you feel anfd the impact it places on our loved ones, its very tuff.
And i am very sorry to hear that you are in such situation

You need to re-visist your Dr or better a Pain Managment Dr that can speciically understand your situation.
There has to be a combination out there , but its all about finding the right doctor who will deliever a plan that can or minamize your difficulties and get the right med combo, this may need to be changed,

Explain all your difficulties and im sure a PM specialist will work with you in giving you some quality of life.
and improve how you function day & night.

Sorry i am not much help, i take stillnox / ambein and this has worked for me. But for others it has not, so you will have to trial a few until you get it right. In the meantime try lavender oil on your pillow, a waterfall or rain music cd with no music, just sounds.

I suggest starting off by talking to your doctor. Tell him about your break through pain and ask him what can be done about it.

While you are at it, as already suggested, ask for a referral to a pain management specialist. Just be sure they are an all around PM because some only give injections and won't touch any of the other forms of pain management such as medication therapy, physical therapy, etc.

In regards to your feet, I don't know if this will help or not, but you might want to talk to your doctor about medications like Cymbalta, Lyrica, and Neurontin. People with nerve pain, like diabetics with nerve damage, often take one or more of these medications to help with the pain. The type of pain they experience is often described as burning or strong shocks. Be advised though. These medications can take a while to work and they often have to build up the dose to find a therapeutic level of the meds.

Thank you punch fit and Jim1969 for responding to my thread, it is nice to know that there are others that actually understand what my wife and I (because she is affected by my pain too) are going thru. I am not used to telling others about what we are going thru, in my line of "work" it would be frowned upon to take pain meds, I could even get fired, so I don't tell anyone how bad it is. Thank you for listening and I appreciate HealWell Forum for having this way of getting support that is anonymous.

Inpain,
I take 120 mg. Methadone a day and I also have BT pain...I am lucky that my Dr. gives me Oxycodone IR 30 mg.X4 a day... Many Dr.'s don't like to give BT meds with Methadone, but I would ask...Methadone is a good pain med but nothing gets rid of all the pain..Don't feel bad for asking for a BT med...
