Just what I needed....sigh... warning::: poss tmi

well last night I was bathing and nosticed my abdomen was stinging. I looked when I got out and much to my horror there was a 3 inch round skin infection. I think it ruptured in the tub. It smelled so awful. I had no idea that it was there or where it came from. I have a mild fever of 99.6 which isnt bad for me.

I have been bathing every 4-6 hours for pain relief and to keep this thing clean. I have an appointment tonight at 6p eastern with my pcp who specializes in Infctious disease. I am nervous heis going to send me to the hospital. I am not easily freaked out but this has me scared that it is some kind of mrsa or something. I think mostly the smell is what has me freaked out. sorry if this is gross and TMI but I really am scared, and sore. I did not need this. I am so embarrassed as well. Its in a place I could not see too well due to being overweight. I know freaking out is not going to help but dont know what else to do while
i wait.

I'm overweight as well and I have had absesses that burst and smelled really bad! I had a big one on the under side of my upper arm once that popped and it smelled almost like skunk smell. The doctor gave me a cream to use on it and it cleared up pretty quickly though it did drain a little more over the next few days. I'm not sure this is what you have going on, but it sounded similar so I thought I would tell you what I had experienced.

Well, you've probably already had your Dr appointment, but I'll go ahead anyway

My cyst was causing incredible pain, but I made it to the Dr. Dr and two nurses began working on it. one of the nurses almost immediately excused herself when the Dr punctured it.

All turned out to be a type of cysts that goes along with diabetes, and was my introduction to the wonderful world of diabetes. Since you've already had your appointment, hopefully your Dr checked for that type of thing, or there were pointers that gave him/her other pointers with which to work.

back from the doc. he said he thought it was a strep infection. He gave me an injection of rocephin IM and took a photo of it. he cultured it and is running bloodwork. I go back for a recheck tomorrow and possibly another injection. HE gave me oral clindamycin to take 4x a day.

so that s the skinny. thanks for helping me through this. It has been very stressful.

so glad you go into see your doctor and that you don't need to go to the hospital...
Sure hope the antibotic helps and that your feeling a whole lot better soon...

Thanks for your correction, yes hydrogen peroxide is a one time use thing and soap and water is always the best to cleanse a wound...I keep dial on hand for cleaning wounds...as dial is antibacterial...

I'm glad you were able to get in to see your doctor so quickly & that your infection is being taken care of! You're right, abscesses can really stink (thanks to the bacteria). Horses commonly get them deep in the soles of their feet & if they are really bad, or have already begun to drain, you can smell it before you see it! Nasty stuff. I hope you're feeling better!

Did you get another injection today? How are you doing? I'm glad you were able to get in and see your doctor, and that you are getting antibiotics, etc.
