Nurse 2,
My heart goes out to you as I know you have suffered so much for so long. I am glad that you have an atty helping with your claim, let him handle things and try to let him worry for you, I know easier said than done. Do not take it personal that SSD rejected your claim, this is typical of them. I worked as a paralegal over 20 yrs and handled many SSD claims on our cleints. This is typical of them to deny the claim. Once you get a hearing before an ALJ it is a different ballgame. One thing I will suggest that you do is try to get a job description from your last employer. That can be very helpful at a hearing for your atty. Talk to someone in human resources about obtaining a job description.
I noticed in your post that you are not using your pain medication as prescribed. Oh, you can't do that, no wonder you are in horrific pain and unable to sleep. You need a constant flow of pain medication in order to stay on top of the pain not under it and that is what is happening here. Yes, the patch was designed for cancer patients when it first came out, then they started using it off label for other conditions. I would not worry about "what if", seems to me trying to have some quality life right now is more important than worrying about something that may never happen. Not using good pain control for that reason is not realistic. Why not ask your current dr for some other type of pain meds since you are not comfortable using the patch. I hate to see you suffer needlessly. I do know that shoulder surgery is one of the worst for terrible pain after surgery. I just think there is more that can be done to get the pain under control but you have to be willing to use the the medication. If you are trying to get into a pain mgt dr one thing they do insist on is taking your medication as prescribed. They often do drug testing to see how much of the pain medication is in your system, that tells the dr if you are taking your medication or not. Please reconsider and use the pain patch as diredted until you can see a PM dr. I do worry for you as I know the pain has been unbearable.
Keep us posted on how you are coming along.
