Doc said I have carpal tunnel

I went to my doc on Monday because my hand pain was getting worse (burning and numbness too). He said I have carpal tunnel. I heard of it before but dont know much about it. Yesterday and today I searched and learned some things. He said take tylenol and use a wrist brace that I got from CVS. And use the brace at night during sleeping. I did that.
He said if it didn't get better in 3 weeks he would send me to a surgeon to do surgery.
Is there something I can do in the meantime, like stretches? My dad says hot and cold soaks will help but tried that and it didn't help.
Does anybody know about accupuncture? Some people say that works too.

I'm new here and had carpal tunnel a year ago. I trteated it very well with a product I bought on the web.
You don't HAVE to do surgery. That's something all docs default to because it's the easy answer. But surgery does fail (I think like 1/4 of the time) and they don't tell you that little factoid.

There are lots of alternative treatments you should explore. Search the web for things like acupuncture (as you suggest), physical thrapy, carpal therapist, massage, yoga, exercise, etc. These are just some things. If you google carpal tunnel syndrome you will find alot, and of course the online encyclopedia is a good start.

Learn as much as you can about it and you won't go wrong.

Funny that a doctor would jump straight to surgery. I have had carpal tunnel for nearly 20 years managed by wrist braces and Tylonel Arthritis. I have a friend who has severe carpal tunnel and she had cortisone injections and physical therapy which helped her tremendously. You might even get some relief from a chiropractor.

I have carpal tunnel in both wrists and have had surgery on the right (it was worse). The surgery worked great for me personally, but I do know of others who did not help achieve pain relief. I still wear braces and am a firm believer in accupuncture. I wish you the very best of luck and hope you feel better - soon! :-)

I had carpal tunnel in both hands. I had surgery several years ago and have not had the problem since.

I'm not sure if I have carpal or not but every so often the wrists will kill me. I work in a job that is severe repetitive motion. My last
job was like that too, so for 15 years it's been all wrist action. I read an article from a dr many years ago and he stated that he
put his patients on Vit E, starting out at 400 and working up to 2000 or so. I tried it and got relief from the pain so whenever it
starts kicking in I just up the dosage until it goes away. He stated that he only had to do surgery on a few patients by using this
therapy. Try it, it can't hurt!!!
