will this ever end

Hey.  I really am lost on what I can do to help my condition.  I was in a car accident 5 yrs ago and have had chronic pain in my neck.  I have tried every treatment that I can find but with no luck.  The only thing that seemed to work was Kadian.  I was taken off it because of something to do with abuse of the drug in Canada and have been told that because I don't have too much structurally that I am no longer able to continue with this drug.  I have been taking Cesamet for a few weeks now and am not happy with the side effects.  While I was on Kadian I started to go back to school and now I am having problems concentrating as well as I am not able to think creativly on the spot anymore.  I really don't know what to try next.  I feel like I am ready to give up and drop out and just lose the money I spent on school.  I hope that someone might be able to help.  Also morphine withdrawl sucks.

Hey pugluv , Sorry your having so much difficulty with your neck .You say there's not too much structure damage , so I guess you've had both x- ray and mri , right ? If not maybe you should get the one you haven't had . Have you tried the chiropracter ? Your right of course morphine withdrawl sucks but , withdrawl from any narcotic is tough . I tried kadian once , I beleive thats time released morphine right ? The generic version ? It didn't work for me but if it works for you thats a bummer them cutting you off . I'm sorry you are dealing w/ so much right now. I hate to hear of someone finding something that actually works for pain (like the Kadian) and then being taken off of it. Since it was working for you, is there a possibility of seeing another doctor and seeing what they think?

Yes, withdrawal from any opiate is NOT fun... I'm sorry you had to experience that!

I don't know much about Cesamet... other than there was a recent discussion here about it and it's side effects. Maybe one of the members that's on it will come along. I *think* it was originally made to help w/ nausea/vomiting... but some are finding that it helps with pain? Is that right? But, hey, if it doesn't work for you, it doesn't work. I'm sure it's really frustrating that you were on something that WAS working!

Wish I had more good advice for you... I'm not sure what to do about school... I understand your feelings on it, completely though. I guess I'm just curious if you can pursue going to another doctor and getting another opinion on which medications are best for you...

I am on Cesamet as well and am in Canada. Are you in treatment at any kind of pain centre? If you're not, I would highly recommend it - it's helps to centralize all your treatments, etc.

The injections might be helpful and you can ask about Botox injections. They're quite expensive and you may have to request your insurer to cover it, but if it works, it's worth it (I paid approx. $465 for one vial, and I've had two injections done so far into the psoas muscle for severe pelvic pain). I assume you're also using heat and you might want to see if a muscle relaxant will help.

Its hard to deal with pain day in and day out...I know. Hang in there, you'll find lots of support here.

I'm so sorry that you're going thru so much pain.  I'm really sorry that they quit the Kadian cold turkey.  They should have at least titrated you down from it.  That really bothers me when someone is on something that is working and then the dr. takes them off of it.  I hope your pain gets better really soon.  ((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))
