Do you have any hobbies?

Hi everyone! I'm sorry if I have posted this before...I don't remember. I am looking for a new hobby that is not too tough on my back/neck. I do love to scrapbook and I have taken painting classes (at Michael's Arts and Crafts). I like to read...but nothing scary because I like happy stories.

I would like to find a new hobby so I am looking for some suggestions.

   Dear Flower,

 

    I make jewelry the most. Originally it was part of my "hobbie sharing" goal with the pain psychologist (a hobbie that wasnt physical). I have tried many hobbies during my "hobbie sharing" adventures. Those include Oil painting, candy making, charcoal art (pastel), scrapbooking, gardening (that wasnt so good it hurt, plus animals came from miles around to eat them because I live in the desert), photography, fishing (made my joints ache but was fun)even tried my hand at online games... just couldnt get the hang of it though... plus it hurts to sit. I would be here all day listing all the things I tried in a 2year time frame. Without a doubt he most fun hobbies are the ones I do with my girls! Those include decorating bird houses, poster art, t-shirt decorating, friendship bracelets and hair barrette making (I would really like to try my hand at adult hair accessories soon).

Hi Flower, I enjoy what I call gardening, lol all in containers in my back yard. I have two dogs and one that seems to think all of my flowers are for her to pull off. So now, I have resported to setting my containers up higher so she can't pull the flowers off. They would dig anything up if I planted it in the ground. I again this year tried my hand at planting some veggies in pots but found the Texas bugs like my stuff way too much and its just not worth it. So, I visit my local farmers market instead. This year I set out some annuals for color in pots and in addition I bought seeds and sprinkled those in there too and to my suprise they have come up and blooming too. I have a four beds that have perennials in them and they do not require much work. I like being outside and I do like bird watching very early in the morning while its cool. I am always out back at daylight with a cup of coffee.

I play a lot of online games as well. I joined a group called Pogo.com and some of our members have played there too. I use to crotchet until carpal tunnel took over my hand years ago. I love to sew but cannnot see by artificial light so that went out the window too, lol. I have thought about quilting but there again is the use of the hands. I enjoy reading but my hands cramp up trying to hold a book. I guess I can count my two rotten dogs as a hobby because they do take up a lot of my time, lol and I enjoy them. I hope you can come up with more things to entertain yourself with.

I am impressed at everyone's creativity! I wish I could say I was creative with my hands but I do enjoy looking at what people like you make! Especially flower gardens. I'm no good with plants even though I come from farming roots (in part - mostly grape country) but love to look at the yards full of beautiful colors that others manage to make.

I would like to do some creative writing down the line, but I think filling out all kinds of applications and paperwork for all kinds of medical and financial stuff has driven the writing bug away.

When I was younger (way before CP entered my life) I had a small sailboat and I loved sailing. There is a tall ship that "lives" in a city near me and they are always looking for volunteer crew members, but, alas, you have to be healthy to qualify. If I could, that's what I'd do.

I wish I had some great hobby, but I don't. When I was younger I used to do a lot of arts & crafts, but then school & sports took over all my free time.

The last two summers, especially, I have tried my hand at gardening. I usually plant a small veggie garden (have done so for the past 6 yrs or so), but this year I went all out. I planted a large veggie garden and a ton of flowers. Unfortunately, I have a black thumb. Almost all my veggies have died & the ones that are still alive have hardly grown since I planted them nearly 2 months ago. I think the soil that I planted them in was no good. I put down new soil, but I don't think it was enough.

Our house used to be a blueberry farm (about 50 yrs ago) & we are pretty sure that when they built this house, the developer stripped off & sold all of the topsoil. And of course New England soil is not very good to begin with (incredibly rocky). Plus where I planted my veggies, there used to be wild black raspberries. I also think that the raspberries had been there for so long that they depleted the soil & made it too acid.

Next year I'll have to plant elsewhere.

I also like to make beaded jewlery.  I love finding interesting beads and turning them into gifts. I also sell quite a bit of my jewelry last sale was $300. So I make a few dollars at it too. 

I would also like to make candles and try it out. I have no idea where to begin! but maybe in the fall I can try that so I can try to sell them at craft fairs with my jewelry.

I find a lot of beads online at ebay and dani knows another great site with how to instructions.

its not that hard to do! let us know what you pick!

Merry, where do you order your beads from and Dani too. I want to find some other places to order.
I am also into beading and i LOVE it. Also big time into scrapbooking and cardmaking. My husband painted the extra room pink for me to use as my craft room. Only problem is that I've had so much pain I can get in there to organize it. Soon I hope because I am getting the urge to play in there. So that is a good sign. I also knit and crochet. Anyway like and need some of those face clothes. I can make some and put them in the mail for you. That will give me something to do even when lying in bed.
I have done many other crafts over the years. I have always loved to do some sort of crafting. We need something to do to stay sane right!!!!! LOL

I too am doing container gardening. It is so much fun and eating the things I have grown myself is really cool.
I also write a lot.

Let's see...PALady--That's really cool that you had a sailboat! Wow. How did you learn how to do it?

Pete--I know you love fishing:) I would try it if I weren't allergic to seafood, lol...

Elenor-That's a great thing to do. I'd like to buy a journal and try something like that.

Dagger, Stella-Did it take you long to learn how to knit?

TMJ, Dani, Merrygirl-I think I'm going to try beading! I took a class once and loved it.

Sjkly-My dad does that. I'm going to look into it too.

Chutz and Stella-I'd love to try quilting. Did it take years to learn?

Thanks, Mom. I'm sorry that you can't do those things anymore. I love to scrapbook, but I can't do it too much because it takes a lot of moving around, etc., and ends up wiping me out.

Skeye-I'm sorry that your gardening didn't go well. I didn't know that the type of soil was important. I'm going to remember that if I try gardening out.

Chartreux-I used to cross-stitch and I loved it. I might try it again!

Ms. Bunky-Can you get the tile supplies at Michael's?

Straydog-I'm going to try out that site!

Stuck-I actually have a piano that I have been trying to play, but I'm having trouble reading the notes. I used to be able to play, but I've forgotten.

I hope that I didn't miss anyone. I read everything and I appreciate everyone SO much! I think I am going to try beading and look into quilting (to see if I'll be able to try a beginner's class). I want to see if I can garden a bit too. I also want to try cross-stitching and making those tiles! So many things! I don't know what to do. Maybe I should choose one. Well, I'm going to go to Michael's tomorrow to take a look around.

Woohoo look at all the hobbies we have. So cool to read everyone's post.
I didn't even mention my outdoor stuff I love to do, like my camping is my all time favourite because i feel so at peace there, i have a sit on top kayak which is so much fun (when i feel good), only been on it once this year as i have not had the strength, i love to go boating with my hubby and fishing, love my bicycle, it's like a cadillac, well that's what i call it. So some fun outdoor hobbies too. There are probably more but i can't think right now, my poor poor memory, it always fails me.

Thanks for the links Dani. I will check them out. I hear you on the no driving cause i can't either. I am not stable enough, poor concentration........ i am shaky on my bike so i better not drive, right!!!

I admire you all for trying different hobbies as I know it is not easy to do when you are in so much pain.
