Recovering from my 2 level cervical spinal fusion

Hey everyone....I know it has been a while, but as many of you know, it has been a little rough.  I had the fusion and discectomy on the 15th, and came home on the 16th.  I seem to be doing ok and the follow up appt my doc said that everything looked great and also that the surgery itself couldn't have gone any better!!!  That made me feel a little better about all of it.  I am still really sore across my back and my neck.  The funny thing is that where they made the incision across my throat is not sore at all!!!  I am still sleeping in the recliner because it is too painful to try to lay flat in my bed, and I am not supposed to drive or be in a car for 2 more weeks!  I have to admit tho that I have cheated 2 times...just couldn't take the same walls staring back at me any longer!!!  Doc says after this heals then we will decide when to do the 4 level in my thorasic and into my lumbar.   Yay me!  Still,  THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL THE SUPPORT YOU HAVE GIVEN!!!!  It really helped me prepare mentally for this.  It's going to be a long haul, but I am going to make it!  (Even tho my dear husband is quickly learning what all I still was able to do because he is now having to do it.)

Finally, very glad to hear your surgery went fine. Word of caution, your dr has a very good reason to keep you out of a vehicle until he says its ok. Imagine what could happen if you were in an accident. Thats why he says stay out of a car please listen to him. You have plenty of time to be out and about. Please take good care of yourself.

I am so glad that you have came through this, it is amazing what they can do isn' t? Please do not over do it! Even though you might feel OK and am anxious to be getting up and around, folllow all your Doctors instructions to the "T" because in the end it can make a world of difference in the out-come as to how you heal up! You have gotten done in one surgery what I have had done in two 25 years apart, and right now your cervical spine and neck has had quite a bit of trauma done to it, and it needs time to properly heal. Hang in there, we are all here to support you,

Hey take it easy...don't rush things okay, what you just had done
was major surgery...Listen to WhiteBeard...and Keep us posted
when you can or as your getting better...and I'm glad you came thru this okay...
will be thinking of you...

I'm so glad to hear that the surgery went well & that you are on the road to recovery! I hope you have a speedy and painless recovery & that this surgery helps your pain in the long run!

hello im glad the sugery went well. i to may some day have to get sugery done i was wondering at what point in the degeneration of your spine did the doctor fianlly reccomend surgery. Since im sure the same with you it was a process over years of MRI;s and trying different pain meds starting with bulging discs and then gotten worse. Im at the point were i have stenosis, DDD etc as you will see in my end note do you think that it;s time that should discuss surgery with my doctor. Anyway heal well gets lots of rest and take care i;ll understand if you dont reply Twiggy2.

I really am doing good, my release papers say I cannot drive. I admit I pay for it when I even go for a short drive, so I sit around the house. The hardest thing is not stooping over to pick something up! I have decided that when this is over, my recliner will have permanent imprints of my butt in it! My mom, my husband and my son have been the greatest!!! My mom comes by everyday and makes something my husband can just heat up and we get real dinner! I just cannot stress enough how much your support and encouragement have helped me get thru this.....THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Finally, something you may want to consider buying for reaching things and picking things up off the floor is a hand held gizzmo, called a "grabber". This thing works like a charm for picking items up off the floor. They can be bought I believe at WalMart, many drug stores too. Ours is a plastic one, I do know they also make them out of metal too. Just a thought to pass on.

Please, please stay out of the car until the dr oks it. If you were to say get rear-ended or something it would probably totally mess up everything that you have just had surgically fixed. I have seen this happen, if you think you were in pain before, you have no idea what its like to go thru it again. Better to be safe than sorry.
