Always There

I always trust my first impression,
Trust without regret.
And I knew I did not like you.
The moment we first met.

You were lurking in the shadows,
Before you showed you ugly face.
Was I there at just the wrong time,
Or maybe the wrong place?

Now you have been the reason,
For so many tears I've cried.
I simply can't escape you,
There is no place to hide.

You are right there with me,
When I go to bed at night.
My husband on my left,
And you there on my right.

And when I close my eyes,
Into my dreams you creep.
Mind and body both exhausted,
Oh please just let me sleep.

You're the first thing that I see,
When I open up my eyes.
I tell everyone, "I'm fine",
But some see through my lies.

They see through my facade,
And know the smile isn't real.
It is only a disguise,
To hide how bad I feel.

I don't think I can take it,
I may just go insane.
I curse the day I met you!
I hate you Chronic Pain!!

Very well said!  An excellent and captivating poem!  As I was reading it I thought you  were possibling referring to memory of a bad experience you might have had, or something along that line, and then to see that is is chronic pain you were referring to.  It all fits doesn't it!  Chronic Pain is like a super bad memory, that just won't go away, as you so eloquently put it in your poem!

 

A truely excellent poem Beckey! Thanks for sharing it with us!

Thank you all! I love writing and I used to write a LOT of poetry. It seems like my pain has stopped me from doing this. Maybe writing about CP will be a breakthrough for me! I have always had a hard time sharing my poems because I never think they are good enough! I appreciate your replies very very much!

Wow, you have written what so many of us feel but are often unable to put into words.

Wow....thank you all soooo much! You brought tears to my eyes! I am so happy that you enjoyed my poem! Like I said, I am always afraid to share because I do not think it is "good enough"! All of your encouraging words may just keep me writing! Wishing you all a LPD! Thank you!

Beckey, never ever let anyone tell you something isn't good enough. The person who says that is speaking only for themselves, and often their words are hurtful because of their own past experiences with rejection.

I've had some of my writings published, so I feel quite confident in saying your poem was excellent. I would encourage you to keep writing and perhaps even consider branching out into short stories as well. You have a gift for words and using them eloquently, so please keep sharing.

As I read the words in each stanza I could totally feel what you feel, as I experience many of the same feelings. Excellent and please do keep writing and posting. If you love to write, and obviously you do, then the subject matter isn't as important as the words and feelings that come through. Feel free to post one of your poems any times. Also, think about a small, self-published book. It just might be very helpful to others who are going through pain and even other serious health issues. You never know where it might take you.
