Hi all,

I just received some fantastic news that I thought I'd share with you. Most of you know that I am in the process of applying to veterinary school for entry in the fall of 2011. Well, I just finished my last application last week, and today I received my first letter acceptance!! That means that regardless of the outcome of the rest of my applications, I WILL be going to veterinary school in the fall!!!!!!

I can't even tell you how excited I am! Being a vet has been my life's dream & now it's coming true! I can't thank you guys enough for helping me to deal with my pain & to get through college despite my handicaps.

Woohooo Skeye, that is wonderful news. If anyone deserved to get accepted its you. I do not know of many that would have continued to pursue their dream as you did considering all the obstacles that kept getting in your way. Vet school is so hard to get accepted in and I do know they only accept a limited few. Its easier to become a dr than getting in vet school for sure. Has your feet touched the ground yet? You are our poster girl of HW that yes dreams can still come true even with CP with lots and lots of hard work and dedication. I can only say you certainly deserve this.

I hope the other little problem you are experiencing with the stim settles down.

I am  just so happy and really over joyed for YOU!!! I hope that you get accepted into allot of them, so you will have to then decide which one to go to! Wouldn't that be cool!!! But to be accepted at all is a huge achievement!  Straydog is right it is not easy to get accepted into Vet School.  I know the University of Illinois has a big Vet school and it is very difficult to get into it. as a side note if you have a sick pet, that is difficult case, a University Vet School is definitely the place to bring them! I know that first hand!! Skeye I am very very proud of you, you have overcome extremely difficult odds and have persevered through it all!  Congratulations!

Thank you all for the congrats! I'm still ecstatic, although at the same time I'm a little down today because it is the 3 year anniversary of the death of my horse (best friend). But I suppose that this acceptance couldn't have come at a better time, because it just reinforces my desire to help animals (and their people) & to not let anyone else have to go through what I went through with my horse those last few weeks.

I still have many more schools to hear from (and probably won't hear from most until mid-winter at the earliest), but it just feels so good to know that I will be going to vet school somewhere next year!

Next step is to fly out to the school & visit the campus/speak with the faculty. Hopefully that will happen sometime before Christmas.

Have you checked out University of Georgia's vet school? They are wonderful there, too.

congrats to you!!!!! I know you will make a great vet, just the compassion you show to people on this list would be a great indication of how you'll treat animals. Sorry about memories of your horses' passing. Animals really touch our souls. I still grieve for my dog who passed 15 years ago. I've had 3 others since but there are some that just touch our hearts in a most special way.

I didn't apply to any schools in the south. All the schools that I applied to are in the north/midwest. For what I want to do, the northern schools are better because they generally have better access to dairy/beef cattle, and other non-equine large animals. Also, I live in the north east, so I wanted to stay close-ish to home if possible, although there unfortunately aren't any vet schools in my state.

I understand, Skeye. I hope the school you chose is the closest to home. I remember thinking college was far away from my home when it was only an hour away.

From your post, do I gather that you are wanting to be a farm animal Vet? As in Moo Cows? Or what area of Vet medicine are you wanting to specialize in? I did not realize that there was so many different areas in Vet Med, untill a friend of my oldest daughter went to Vet School, and I think she specialize in Hogs. There seem to be more specialties in Vet Medicine than in human medicine! Anyway You have made all of your friends here at Healing Well very proud! Good Job!

I most definitely want to work with large animals (horses, cows, sheep, goats). I'm not sure yet, but I either want to work in an all large animal practice, or a mixed practice (like the one I work at now), where you see all animals, from dogs, cats, and wildlife, to dairy & beef cattle. We'll see. I used to think I wanted to specialize in surgery, but I know now that my eyes couldn't handle being a surgeon.

Anyways, I guess we'll see what happens. They say that often people want to be one kind of vet going into school & then come out specializing in something completely different.
