On my way to the ER

While waiting for my ride, I need distraction so I thought I'd reach out. Been up all night with SEVERE pain which I cannot control no matter what I take. I've had a relapse the past three days and can't get my UC under control--I believe I went to the bathroom 15+ times in the past eight hours. My biggest worry is that I will get hospitalized--again--just got out a month ago after a weeks stay. Can't stop crying from the pain. I feel overwhelmed with how many times I need to go to the MD and ER this past year and am wondering if anyone else has this revolving door to the ER or MD b/c of their condition.

BTW: for those who have to go to the ER for severe pain, at what point or how bad does it get before you decide to go (and what kind of treatment do you get, how does the staff react to you as a CP patient). Really not looking forward to this.

Thanks SE for your reply, so far you are my one and only response out of approx. 50 who have viewed this post; that always blows my mind, how many people don't respond and it's been consistent for the three years I've been participating. It may be b/c I come off/on to this site and people may have forgotten me and I myself am not a big responder to things I am not familiar with or a specific question. Another thing that intrigues me is all the "newbies" who are all "veteran" members after joining within one to a couple of months--the identifier as a veteran is amusing. I think too much or it may be the injection of pain medication I received in the ER to bring down my levels so I can better manage. The MD suggested hospitalization, but I said if there is any way I don't have to, I would rather stay at home, but if things don't get better soon, I'm headed for another hospital stay--twice in one month, yeah!

     Hey Big Lucy!  

      Ok, I have to defend the membership a little here. There are several visitors looking at these post every day, and when they click on the post, it registers a hit. Also, I tend to click on the link several times a day to see if anything was replied to, and often go back and check to see if I stated something correctly. I have a bad habit of making speeeelling errors and my mindset is off a bit with the meds I'm on.

      So!....40 of the 50 hits could have been mine!   Also, many of our members are either preparing for the holiday's or are experiencing terrible health conditions as yourself.

     As you can see, the members really do care about you. I supose that yes, if you are not always present here on the forum, some of them might forget that you have been gone for a while. I had forgotten about Scarred for Life, and she is one of my Kansas buddys!

     Please do take care, and we all hope you get some relief soon. And stay out of the Hosipital!   That is the last place we want to see you!

Hi Lucy, I am assuming the drs kept you at the hospital, if so I hope you are beginning to feel better. I never did see what you take for your UC but wanted to ask if you had ever been tried on Lialda for it? Its a fairly new one, I was put on it right after my scope when I was dx'd with UC in addition to my existing crohns disease. I got lucky and managed to have both. My gi says this only happens to like 5% of the people and I guess I got lucky. Back to the Liadla I have been on it since 06 and it seems to keep thing handled pretty well. it may be something to check into for UC.

I want to say that I was one who read your post and did not respond. I pulled it up just before a visitor dropped in and then honestly "thought" I had responded. When I looked back today, it showed that there was unopened information and I opened it again to see the update on you. It was only then that I realized I had never posted any support.

I honestly think people get in the middle of things when they are reading....like the phone ringing, a child needing them, a person stopping by the house (I'm having an addition added as a precaution for my mother in case she needs a place to stay.....or better yet, my step-father is having an addition put on my house....I don't have the money at all). In any case, I am sorry for not checking back. I always look for unopened posts and don't realize that I haven't posted until I check back in. I'm sorry for your pain and for you having to go back to the hospital again (even if it was just the ER this time). I so hope you find relief and can stay at home instead of the hospital for the holiday season.

PAlady--something good happened just as I was on my way to the ER (eh, when do you ever hear that?), my CP MD called me after a nurse contacted him and he fit me in immediately, so I didn't have to go to the ER after all, yeah--I completely dislike the ER. We discussed me being hospitalized again and I decided not to if I agreed to go to the ER immediately within two days if things didn't get dramatically better. I was given a substantial pain shot and I'll tell you, it was just what I needed: came home, relaxed, slept and got up the next day able to manage my pain better and even, wait for it, do some chores! Life is strange indeed. In general, I have been on medical leave for the past two months after being hospitalized, I was unable to eat for three weeks, maintain any nutrition, fun times. Now spending my time trying to rest and get my body back up to "speed."
What do you mean by the "persona of the CP forum has changed some over the past several months." I have to admit I do feel comforted when I see an "old friend" from the site, catching up with new people is exhausting. I'll say it again, I wish we lived in the same town, I would love to sit with you for an afternoon (or many), have tea and discuss why I like Sylvia so much--or just sit in silent support.

I probably dont go as much as some to the ER but i draw the line when i cant walk properly, severly constipated and when the pain triggers me to want to cry. I feel like i burden my doctors/insurance company :p but i seriously would not wish this type of pain on anyone. Worse i am not officially prescribed pain medication so i do either end up grinding through it like usual or if its really bad justvlaying down hoping the mix of tylenol and aspirin work, not supposed to take aspirin with bowel disorders but i dont have a prescription for something more safe an effective like roxicodone. So yes i feel like crap going to the ER or doctors because they cant find anything from all the tests yet i have horrible pain, sometimes i feel like they think im crazy haha. But my mother has lupus and RA and they thought it was all in her head and today she just got the official diagnoses.
