had my bone scan today

It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be; definitely on the uncomfortable side though.

I went in at 12:15 for the injection, which they took scans of it going through my blood stream. Then I went back at 2:45 and in total it took about 30 minutes. I noticed at the end that there was a lot of dark but I don't know if that is normal and Im not even about to guess. I seen my thyroid, spine and pelvic region, it was totally black. I have no idea what this means but I will find out the results on the 8th when I see my PM doctor. Just wanted to let you all know.

Good luck with the results. I have never had one and don't know anything about them, but you may be able to look on mayo or some other site to find a little more info.

I hope things work out well.

Welcome to another glow-in-the dark test. The dark parts are the places where there is no inflammation or bone uptake - if you are seeing it the way it usually shows. I could see the screen during mine last year. It was interesting.

Alcie, I couldn't see the screen because they were focusing on my spine and besides the table turning 180 degrees, I barely got to see anything. So the dark places mean no inflammation? Well I guess that's a good thing. I only caught a brief glimpse at the very end when she was lowering the table. I wish I could have seen it the whole time.

Few more days to go and I will have the results. I will definitely post them here. I am curious but for the most part the result waiting isn't in my head. I will not stress about it. It wont change my pain either way. Thank you for all the support!

Breezy -
You can get a copy of the disk. It should be able to be viewed on any computer. It will probably take a couple of minutes because the files are large. You can zoom in and out. The bright white spots should be inflammation or something that causes the radioactive calcium to be taken up by the bones.

If you say it's for your PCP the disk should be free. They can be copied too, so you can have one to hand to your rheumatologist or whomever.

i have to say that you were very lucky. i had a bone scan done last week. had my injection at 12pm, had to go back in at 3pm for my scan and it took an hour and a half to complete.

i couldnt believe how much moving around i had to do, even though i was is agony. i have to wait to hear from my rheumy, but i had alot of dark patches in mine too.

Okay, went to my PM doctor today and he said my bone scan was normal, which is great news! I had 8 neck and back injections today with a freezing kinda like the freezing you get at the dentist. He did this because he wanted to see if my muscles were still in spasm and if the freezing injections worked then I could get a free round of botox in my neck and upper back. The botox is 500.00 and I don't have coverage, so he will do 1 free botox round on January 10th. It did help my back ache but it did nothing for my neck.

I also start a 4 round series of medial block injections starting december 22nd. I also got this cream that has an anti-inflammatory and lidocane to rub on my neck and back 3 times a day. It's all a bit overwhelming but I am hopeful that at some point in the next year I have some relief if not total healing of my neck injury.

Just wanted to update. If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask :)

I'm glad your bone scan was normal, one hurdle down for you, now,
seems like they are going to throw a lot of procedures at you in a short
period, so make sure to have plenty of ice packs at home to get
over all the discomfort you'll be getting, they'll make you so sore...
Try to get all the Christmas things taken care of and

I guess I had trigger point injections today. I did get some relief in my back but my injured ligament didn't feel it lol I do have a large amount of pain now in my neck. Im trying to stretch it out but I can't even get close to touching my chin to my chest. I will rest once my kids go to bed.

Thank you Chartreux! It is a lot of injections. I really hope they work.

I hope the botox works for you Breezy...I had two rounds of it for severe muscle spasms and knots of pain in my pelvis and unfortunately, it didn't help me.

I was lucky with the cost though - a pharmacist friend sold it to me at his cost and my insurance covered 90% once I provided them with all the necessary paperwork.

    Oh goodness I am so relieved you had a good bone density. That could have caused all sorts of problems that would have taken quite some time to get under control. *pew* *high five*

     I have heard some really great things about Botox for pain control. It effectively freezes the area it is being injected in. Personally, I have not be allowed access to try it. My specialist says I do not have type of pain that it will help with, but I have a friend who was able to get her chronic headaches under control with it.

     I sure do hope you are able to get at least a little rest at some point. You have been in considerable pain for a long time now. Hang in there. You are in our prayers!

I was definitely relieved to hear my bone scan was normal. I guess the reason why he is doing the botox is because my muscles are in severe spasm because of how bad the ligament injury is. The spasms definitely cause a lot of grief for me.

The medial branch block injections are to treat the area of C2-3 where I sustained most of my injury. I really hope they work as well. The doctor said I should have been healed in 4 to 6 weeks, 10 weeks being the max. So there is some concern there but it will be one step at a time.

MsBunky, Im sorry the injections didn't work for you :( I don't think they will work in my neck either, because the trigger point injections I had never affected my neck, just my upper back. I hope you have found some relief for your pelvic pain

I have tried botox injections for my headaches, had two rounds, and it did not help.
