2010 Purdue at it again. No more oxycontins!

Hi. I am new. I just found out no more generics again. I can't believe it!  The brand name Oxycontin  is soooooo expensive. I can't afford it. My insurance will not  pay for brand names, if you are in the gap. I don't know what I am going to do. I am so upset. Any ideas? Mzmarty confused

Yeah, I've read different things. I've read that some stores still have generic and I've read that there are no more generics. I don't know what to tell you. Can you ask your doctor to try another long-acting medication? There's always short acting oxycodone. It's ashame that there are no more generics. Please keep us updated.

If there is a pharmacy in your area that compounds medicines, sometimes they will compound a non marketed dosage and it is usually a fraction of the cost. I have to do that with part of my oxycontin script. I am supposed to take 3 a day and ins will only pay for 2, so the pharmacy compounds a 62mg capsule for me and it is only 60.00 for 30

Well my co-pay is higher for the Brand Name, but I have not had the Generic brand for quite a long time now!  Usually for the Generic or regular ones, my co-pay is three dollars but for ones not in  the insurance formulary I pay  the higher  nine dollar co-pay.  I take a 40mg tablet every eight hours.  Oxycontin is not one of the cheaper mediactions though!

 

Mzmarty is there any other medication that your Pain doctor could put you on that would work for you? I know that for allot of people that can be difficult, but have you discussed it with your Pain Management Doctor?  I do hope you can find a workable solution!

Without insurance my monthly dose of Oxycontin is $612.00 for 90 40mg tablets!

This is just SO wrong! I see RED every time I think about it!

Sorry you are running into this problem! I have not heard anything either way.....but I take Morphine extended release...partly because of my insurance and partly because oxy gives me a headache! I only pay 10.00 for a full month of generic meds.....but my insurance hardly pays anything for brand names so I try to avoid them! Hope you get this straightened out and get your meds!

I was wondering if you talked to your doctor about a Prior Authorization? I have to have my doctor's office get one every 6 months in order for my insurance company to pay for my oxycontin. They don't pay for oxy's without a prior authorization. Your PM has to contact your insurance co. and tell them that it is the only medication that you can take at this time. The insurance company will get your doctor to fill out a form and sign it and they usually give you six months of authorizations at a time. Maybe your PM will do that for you. Good Luck. it's not enough bang for the buck if you have to pay a high co-pay or pay outright for it. $ 430.00 is my co-pay for 90 80mg tabs. thats ridiculous; i really believe that morphine sulfate CR or ER made by Watson or Mallinkrodt pharmaceuticals which is the generic form of MS Contin and Oramorph is much closer in power than Purdue, Oxycontin's maker lets on. i take the 100mg CR by Watson 3X per day now because i think it works better. my co-pay for 90 100mg tabs. is $ 30.00 so thats a bonus. Methadone is good if your on a budget but some people like myself have side-effects. good luck, they have us nailed with the prices of every other drug on the market.
