Went to visit my neurosurgeon on Friday. Can you believe that I'm six months out from my stimulator implant?! He was thrilled with my progress & told me that I am his "poster child" for using the stim system for rare, intractable facial pain conditions. My Medtronics rep then checked all the leads & the battery, and everything is running fine. Driving home was a nightmare, though. The dr's office is an hour and a half from my house, but we got hit with a nasty snow storm (that wasn't supposed to start until Friday evening) that picked up right as we were leaving & it took us almost 5 hrs to get home!! We ended up getting a foot & a half of snow. It's been a snowy winter so far, as we got over a foot just after Christmas, a foot and a half Friday, and we are supposed to get at least a foot, if not more, on Weds.
Some more good news, I saw my ophthalmologist today & the combination of being out of school/using my eyes less, and being in less pain thanks to my stimulator, has allowed my eyes to stabilize. My convergence has gotten a little worse, but we aren't going to do anything about
it for now, because that lead to other problems. We expect things to start worsening again when I go to vet school in the fall & start using my eyes more heavily, but for now I actually had a positive visit!
I just wish I could say that I felt good. I seem to have come down with the nasty bug that has been going around the family for the last few weeks. Had to call in sick to work today & might have to call in tomorrow too. Being sick certainly hasn't helped my pain any.
