Hi everyone,

I am new to this site but not new to chronic pain.I have severe lower back pain from buldging discs and ddd. my main problem right know are my knees.I had a tkr on my right knee in 2009 and then a manipulation on it.Then I went to a new surgeon and he did a revision on it on june 2010.I have so much pain and stiffness that now I regret having the surgeries.

The doctor does not do anything for me including pain meds anymore.I really would hate to get a third doctor on my knee but I know that I might have to.Now my left knee is full of arthritus and is very painful.My pcp doc gives me pain meds for my back so at least I do have something to take for the pain.I could use some new friends to talk to and some advice. thanks for reading this post.

Have you possible consider getting a pain management doctor added to your list, a
pain management doctor might be able to give you injections in your knee, I had one
done and it sure did help. just something to think about, next time you go see your pcp
ask about bloodwork for arthritis? RA arthritis can be quite painful but can also be
treated with medicines if you have it, ostheoarthritis is harder to treat, This is a good
website for support. others will come by with advice...welcome to our family but sure
wish it was under better circumstances than chronic pain....

Hi Paula. I wanted to welcome you to our chronic pain forum. So sorry that it is your
pain that brings you here but glad that you are joining our group. You will love the people
here. You say you could use some friends to talk to, well you have come to the right place
girl. I don't know about your pain condition that you have as my pain problem is chronic
headaches, but I know someone will come by with some good advice for you.

Sorry to hear about your trouble w/your knees. Did something go wrong w/your original TKR surgery? I have severe OA in both knees. I have had numerous Synvisc shots. They worked wonderfully for a while. They don't seem to last as long lately. Doc says I need TKR on both knees. I have heard wonderful accounts from patients who have had TKR and were so happy w/the pain being gone. Then, of course, I have heard other accounts. It is confusing, isn't it? I guess the "revision" didn't help at all?

I know it is a pain to find a new doctor, but you need some help, and it doesn't sound like you are getting much. Maybe you could try another orthopaedic surgeion for another opinion, and a pain management doc. Just a thought.

Welcome Paula, pretty new to the CP forum myself, but I have been dealing with OA for a long time.

Just curious, what is a "manipulation" or a "revision" on a TKR? My dad had both knees replaced and he got 10 pain free years out of them before one loosened up. (he just had the replacement replaced with a longer stem)
Do they know what is causing the pain and stiffness? I don't believe that is normal for TKR?

Hi Paula, I too would like to welcome you to Healing Well's chronic pain forum. I am sorry that you have to be here but glad that you found us. You have a lot going on with a back problem and both knees involved. I have been there myself and its just no fun. When your knees give you a problem its pretty tough, we don't realize just how much we use them and when they get to the point of not functioning too well its a mess. Is the problem with your knees something that surgery can correct or it is pain issues only? If its pain issues then perhaps seeking out a pain mgt dr may be the avenue to take, and while there also have him treat your back problems. That way your would have one dr involved taking care of your needs. Pain mgt drs know more about different types of pain medications and they sometimes use a combination of medications to get the achieved result needed. I am in no way saying your primary care dr is not competent, but my experience has been the pain mgt drs are just up more on the pain meds used today to treat CP. It stinks to know you have been thru surgery with that knee and then still be with a knee that is not working to well.

   Hey Paula , Welcome to the HW family , you couldn't have picked a better place with more caring folks . Chat note is on thursdays at 8pm stop in and say hello , and you'll see how great the people are here . They really helped me thru my hip repcement surgery and mostly the time leading up to it , when I needed a walker to get around and was in constant pain . The family here is just awesome !  Mikel
