Thank God for good nurses

As many of you may have read I had to leave the office before seeing my doctor last week after waiting for 45 minutes and therefore was unable to get my script for my pain meds and then found out that my wanna-be doctor went on vacation this week and never bothered to answer my messages before leaving. The earliest appointment I could make to get in to see her was Feb 28.

Well I had an inspiration and called the pain nurse yesterday and explained what was going on and she too thought it was totally BS and said she would see what she could do for me.

Well I got a call tonight around 6pm saying my script for my pain meds was waiting to be picked up. Looks like she went to another doctor at the clinic and got him to write the script. I don't know what the nurse told this other doctor but she came through. Needless to say I was out the door and headed for the clinic as soon as I hung up.

Upon getting home from the pharmacy I took my first dose in a week and now I am almost giddy with relief. I guess going from an 8 to a 3 will do that to a person.

Good job, Jim!! Most people are intimidated by the medical community, although I don't know why. As I always told my kids when they were afraid to talk to someone who was "important" in their eyes. "They put their pants on one leg at a time, just like the rest of us. If you have a problem, start at the top and work your way down." It's served all of us well many times over.

Lucky you, Jim. I've seen far more of those nurses that paint you as a junkie than paint younas a patient. Keep her in your life wherever she goes to practice. Christmas cards too. Her kind are a blessing.

I remember when I first got out if the hospital after u had been paryzed for a week. One of the nurses tried telling me opiates obviously didn't work on me. I replied, "what Re you talking about dilaudid abd opana both worked great! They let me function again." she said "you're not getting dilaudid or opana. Those are for cancer pain.". A NURSE, telling me what my treatment would be. The nerve of some people who have RN after their last names. My god.

Jim, I am glad to hear that you found a good advocate for you and that you got your pain meds.

My doctor's office automatically goes to whatever doctor is on call to get approval for prescriptions and get them signed and mailed out to the patients. That is crazy that you had to jump through those hoops!
