Hi Tony~
And welcome to the CP Forum Family. I'm so sorry that an 'accident' from a sport you apparently love has caused your life to go upside down. It seems criminal that your symptoms weren't taken seriously and your treatment delayed so long. Although it's not uncommon, unfortunately. My father wasn't told of his prostate cancer for about
2 years since, as they told him, "you will die from something else". Well, guess what he died from and painfully at that. You wouldn't be using Group Health (Death as we around here call it), would you? They're famous for only treating what they have to and it get worse as you age. I've read reports out of these medical facilities that sound like something from the stock market instead of taking about
patients' lives. It's all about
money and the 'bottom line'.
Sorry I got side tracked...just a sort spot with me. Anyway, ideas??? Are you comfortable with the medical team you currently have? Could you consider changing specialists? Since you have a multi-symptom problem and it has blown past your medical team you might benefit from going to a university/teaching university. They are not only on the cutting edge of treatment but this is where much of the medical research is done around the world. You can either ask your PCP to refer you to someone but often they don't know anyone to refer you to. Or you can just call, explain what you are looking for and they can set you up with the right person.
At the top of the 'Topics' list is one called Chronic Pain 101. In there is a link to a list of these places around the globe. It's not an absolutely complete list but it's a great start. Most people have a teaching/university hospital or clinic within a drive and can get an appointment. You will likely have to drive more than you would like but when we're talking about
quality of life it's more than worth it. Oh, here's the link to the list so you don't have to look it up right now.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_university_hospitalsI do hope you have some better luck from this point forward. When we have so many parts of our bodies that are 'going south' ..lol...it's often hard to get good treatment for it all. But if we don't stand up and ask for what we need then no one will be doing it for us.
Keep in touch, OK?
