I guess I should tell you all why I want the information for the pump and let those of you that are newer know what my diagnosis and things are.

My diagnosis are: compression fracture in my thoracic spine where I fell in March 2001 and it didn't heal. I have spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis and bones spurs in my spine, osteoarthritis and bursitis in my left hip, osteoarthritis in my left hip, and I forgot osteoarthrits in both knees in my signature. I'll have to fix that.

I also have a new pain that crept up a few days ago in my left front thigh. I'm trying to figure out if that's sciatica or something else.

So, there's my info.

What i wanted to know about the pump is if anyone has any links about them and those of you that have them, could you tell me about your experience with it. I haven't talked to a dr. about them, I was just thinking about them and wondering if they might help with my pain.

I have had my pain pump implant since June last year. I have Neuropathy in both my feet and legs due to nerve damage from a lumbar fusion I had in 1996. Both feet and legs pounded and throbbed with pain. Like so may others, I had to walk on my pain.

I must say that having my pump implant was the very best thing I could have done for myself. I tried the SCS(spinal cord stimulator)but it did not work for me. Some people believe you must try the SCS first before you can have a pain pump implant but that is not true. It's a personal choice that you can make.

I have reached the point or the "magic" dose and no longer need to have increases. It did take 6 months to reach this level. Your Doctor starts you out on a low dose and increases until you reach your "magic" setting.

Pain pumps can have their share of problems. Catheters can split but to me the benefits far outweigh the risks. I ask myself if there was anything that could go wrong that would leave me worse off than I already was....the answer was NO.

I have my life back. Unless I am having a weather related flare up my pain is non-existant. I still take oral pain for BT pain but do not need any most days.

I will be happy to answer any questions anyone may have related to the pain pump. Life is so good now.

Thank you for the reply PainPumpLady. It sounds like you made a great decision to have the pump implanted. I don't have the neuropathy, thank God. It's great that you don't have any pain most of the time. Congratulations.
