voltaren and other creams

Do any of you have creams or patches that you use to help your pain? I have voltaren gel and lidoderm cream thru prescriptions. I would be interested to hear what everyone uses as far as those go. Thanks in advance.

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction to Voltaren Gel: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Although the risk of serious side effects is low when diclofenac is applied to the skin, you should be aware of side effects that can occur if the medication is absorbed into your bloodstream.

Stop using Voltaren Gel and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

chest pain, slurred speech, problems with vision or balance, and feeling weak or short of breath;

bloody or tarry stools, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds;

pale or yellowed skin, dark colored urine, confusion;

swelling or rapid weight gain, urinating less than usual or not at all;

nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);

bruising, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness;

fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash; or

the first sign of any skin rash, no matter how mild.

Less serious Voltaren Gel side effects may include:

mild nausea, stomach pain, upset stomach;

diarrhea, gas; or

mild itching, dryness, redness, scaling, or other skin irritation where the medicine was applied.

Was allergic to lidoderm patches.
Voltaren caused my hair to fall out (I was using it on my neck & scar on head)

I now use a compounded gel with ketamine in it. It's not covered by my insurance, but I really love it and don't get side effects from it b/c my doctor can order a low enough dose that it doesn't bother me. :)

I was prescribed both the Voltaren Gel and the Lidoderm patches for my bad knees, but neither is covered under my drug plan, which is utterly ridiculous.  I found that the cost of filling both prescriptions is just not feasible on my disability income, especially with all the other medications that I already require.  Although I have used both medications successfully in the past, unfortunately for me these days, the cost of basic survival limits my ability to pay for anything not covered by my prescription plan these days.  I just have to suck it up, and that's a crappy way to live if you ask me.  Hope you are able to afford these meds...they really do work well.

Capsian creams are supposed to stimulate Mu pain receptor endorphins. I'm not so sure they are really that effective for pain, but keep in mind that some people experience a slight euphoric feeling from eating exceptionally strong hot wings. Endorphin production is also supposed to be stimulated by TENS units, although a different type (I believe its D receptor endorphins) that basically act as masking agents. On low frequencies, the Mu receptor endorphins can be produced, but it takes longer and requires stronger current.

Diflonac patches did help me out, but they take a while to kick in and they are somewhat irritating to the skin. Still a good backup to have if additional pain relief is needed.
