27 and just found out i herniated my L5 S1 HELP!

Oops I missed your post at the top of page two. Well I am glad you got some answers and some

medications. I hope that will help over the next weeks until the 21st. Take it easy and rest up.

I am hoping that you can get some good nights sleep now.

suzane dr sad because of sharp pains in my leg i might do alot of napping right now! but try new meds tonight maybe ill sleep like a rock

Hi Chelsely...welcome to HW...don't think I have said hi before..

I have read through the post and I'm sorry to see you having so much pain..

I know we can all have different experiences...but I have to say that if you have a known herniation...which I have had many over the years...I would be VERY careful about a Chiropractor...

Personally...I would absolutely never go to one after a known herniation...They are not Dr.'s who specialize in this...and not trained one day in true Neurosurgery or Orthopedic knowledge..

They only have to have 4 years of a professional study and an undergraduate degree..

A Neurosurgeon or Orthopedic surgeon who deal with disc issues including herniations..They have a total of 10 -12 years of just education, medical training and then clinical field study and residency...and then years of 'on the job'...after that...

Again..not trying to knock them..and not trying to scare you...but a Chiro could paralyze or cause further harm to your herniation and spine by doing an 'adjustment'...

I am actually really surprised that your Dr. is ok with you going there after knowing about your herniation..

I totally get your pain...I have have gone through 3 surgeries...as well as injections of all kinds, I still do acupuncture on a regular basis.....and live with chronic pain...

So I completely understand wanting to try anything to help resolve your pain...I would just hate to see you get worse with an adjustment...I think that Chiro's...for people who use them..are great when you don't have any serious disc issues...

I do wish you well on whatever you decide...and obviously this is just my opinion and not a Dr..

Sounds like you have a decent dr, however I am with Snowbunny, I would not let a chiropractor do an adjustment or manipulation of the spine with a herniated disc. This type of treatment can cause further injury, have seen that happen before. Of course, its your body and you must make your own decisions.

ok im not having ajustments just decompression done im afraid of all the other stuff this is just trackion to straiten the back and get oxygen to the disk to try and help but im with you on the other stuff ty for all the great help i dont know were id be with out it, the pains ok now with oxy's thank heavens!!

I guess what I meant...is I, personally, wouldn't be going there at all...I would get the traction done by an Orthopedic Dr. or Neurosurgeon...I did this before my first surgery...

I have read about a Chiropractor's version of 'decompression'...and it's just way too risky for me with disc herniations...my whole point is they are not medically trained around Orthopedics or Neurology which is the bones, the spinal cord, and all the nerves....

Because you have to sign something when you go to the Chiropractor that if you have any disc herniations...they are not responsible if they cause greater damage or further herniations...that alone would make me run...

Again..that's just me...I truly hope you will get some help and relief..

Hi, I have to also say that I would NEVER go to a Chiropractor...again like the others have said, its totally up to you and this is just me. But I can't take any chance to make my neck any worse. To me its just to much of a risk.

I do wish you much luck whatever you choose to do! None of us want to be in the pain we are in thats for sure!
