In need of some well wishes

Well, since this board is more active than the RA board, I'll posts here.

Going for my first ever Methotrexate (MTX) Injection tomorrow for RA and will be
getting lessons on how to inject it myself...so I'm kinda nervous, and could
use some well wishes in hopes that I don't have any reactions...The doctor
thought that the injection would be better for me to by pass the digestive track
all the way...So tomorrow is very busy for me, first psychologists then
physical therapy, lunch and then my methotrexate lessons...my daughter
is tagging along to drive me home...

The only bad thing so far is my pharmacy did not provide any needles/syringes and my doctor wrote the
script up for diabetic needles/syringes... anyone else have that problems with the pharmacies???

So well wishes are needed.

Hi Chart...I am definitely sending some prayers your way!!!...

I don't know much about the medicine...just from what I've read a bit about it and seen others who use it online....and I'm sure you have considered the possible downside and extreme dangers compared to the upside and thought it through very carefully....as well as all the medicines or OTC's you cannot take while getting this treatment....

Please just watch out for any of the dangerous side effects and contact them right away if they occur!!

Obviously we all have to make those decisons about our pain and health...

I'm not sure what Pharmacy you went to..but I would call around to Walmarts or Targets as they usually are stocked up better than most smaller drugstores, mom and pop's, or grocery store pharmacies...

As well as not sure if you know...but you can also try Sam's or other big box store Pharmacies...you do NOT have to be a member to use the Pharmacy as many mistake...and if there is any cost out of pocket that you are paying for these or any meds...they are cheaper than even the Walmarts or any other place...just fyi:)

Glad that your daughter will be driving you home...I will certainly be praying that it helps you..

If the prescription was written for needles and syringes they should have ran them under your insurance if your insurance does not cover them you can a buy a box of 100 diabetic needles/syringes for around $15 at a retail pharmacy. if you just need a package of 20 or so it's $3 at least in the southwest it is. I would call your pharmacy and asked if they've tried submitting the needles/syringes under your insurance. If they aren't covered then ask how much it would be for cash price. Also see if your doctor has specified a certain gauge and how many units you are injecting on the prescription. If your doctor didn't specify then I would ask the pharmacist what gauge he would recommend. Hope this bit of information helps!! many ((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))) and well wishes.

Hi! I'm new here but know a bit about pharmacy. The situation "may" be that if the script for the syringes was written on the same page as another script, they may have simply, and innocently, overlooked it. You just need to ask them to pull up the original hard copy (many pharmacies these days scan the original prescriptions and can simply pull it up on the screen in a matter of seconds) and ask them to check for the prescription for your syringes.

I can't tell what your exact situation is with the pharmacy from your post...did they say they wouldn't sell them to you or did you just not get them with your prescriptions? Typically syringes are not covered by insurance, but they aren't terribly expensive. Syringes are kind of a "catch 22." In some states (and it can vary from county to county within a given state) syringes require a prescription, however, they are considered an "OTC" item, so the insurance will not pay for them. But if you have a flex-pay or similar account, syringes do qualify for reimbursement.

Hey Chart, I'm sure everything will be just fine! Keep your chin up and all that good stuff!!!

 On the shot thing, My wife gives me a testosterone shot in alternating butt cheeks every three weeks! We have to use a size #20 needle since the testosterone is in canola oil of all things! The needle is HUGE, the same size she uses on our horses!

 I think I could give it to myself in a pinch but I'm glad I have her to do it for me!!! Do you have anyone who can help you w/ it???

Well it wasn't too bad no immediate reactions had some nausea last night and having
some fatigue..the nurse PA said she'd call the pharmacy about the syringes, and my
insurance didn't even cover the methotrexate, but my husband said it was only $11.00...

I'll try to do the thigh next week, had this first one done in my left arm..
so so far not too bad...hopefully the fatigue will go away..., my eye's are giving me problems

but I go to the eye doctor next week, might be time for new eye plugs..those do get expensive...
(eye plugs keep the eye's moist and free from infections, which I get easy)eye plugs help with
the sjogren's. most people only have the lower lids plugged, but I have both lower
upper lids plugged for longer lasting effects...

Also, for my low back pain the phyiscal therapy started me on ultra sound treatments again, that felt good
sure hope they continue with that.

Chart glad to hear the first shot went ok for you. The fatigue and nausea should past fairly quick for you. I have a few friends on Methotrexate for RA and not only has it helped them but they all seem to tolerate it fine and lets hope the same for you. They had the side effects initially but they passed. What was the reason for your insurance not covering the medication?

My Humira I inject in the tops of my legs. I can also inject it into the stomach but for the life of me, I have not been able to do that, just the tops of the legs.
