New Med for me Nucynta

Hi Lucky..Glad to see that your Dr. is working with you to try and find a good combination...

Please make sure you read all the enclosed information about this medicine...It says it's 'similar to morphine'...It can also cause fatigue...especially added to any cold/allergy meds, other narcotics, nerve pain meds, antidepressants, or anxiety meds....So really be careful..I wouldn't drive for the first days taking it because of the possible sleepiness....

It's not a 'long acting' medicine like the Oxy...it's an every 4-6 hours...so you will have the ups/downs with your pain unlike the extended release of the Oxycontin...so you will just have to find a good schedule for it...

I always have my Pharmacist do a med interaction check when filling the prescription...

So you know me...your worry gal:)....Since it's a fairly new med....I have never tried it and I've seen some people have good results with it...

My name is Stacy I'm usually in the Fibromyalgia forum. I have been on Nucynta for about a year now and I take 100mgs 4 times a day. To me this medication is not as strong as Oxy to me but I think I am getting immune to it already. When I started it I did'nt take it until my days off came around just so I could see how it would affect me it does work but it just does'nt work as good as Oxy to me. Maybe once you see how it works for you if the 50mgs does'nt work it can be increased. Hope this helped some.

P.S I did go to a drug interaction site and checked to see if it interacted with some of my other meds and it did so you might want to check into it.

I was wondering where you've been....!!  You were quiet for a couple of days!   Glad to see you posting!! 

Oh, the stories I could tell ya.  It only took me.... ummmm, 5 years to get to a combo of meds that worked.... and even w/ that, some minor tweaking over the last couple of years.  Luckily, I have an awesome PM doctor that knows I also do my homework and know a ton about all this stuff - so he listens to me and all my *suggestions* :)

So - I'm glad your doctor is working with you.  Be patient - I really feel confident you'll get there... if just may take another couple "adjustments".

I've been on just about every med, at every strength... but since this is a newer med... and I'm already at the dilaudid/fentanyl stage - I haven't used this.  But glad there are a few here that can give you some info.  Also, too, if you go to search - do a search on Nucynta... because I know we've talked about this med before. 

Ok, girl - let us know how it works, ok??  Did you watch our shows this week?  Bachelorette was good.  I can't believe I watch that darn show.  I'm sitting here watching So You Think You Can Dance that I DVR'd from earlier.  Ahhh, my crazy life!

Totally agree!  I wonder what she thought when she finished taping and was able to look through the footage and found out all the things Bentley said about her.  Also - when I went to the grocery store yesterday - I saw on some magazine cover that said "I'm Engaged" by Ashley.  Who knows if it's true, but it did look true.

Tina...I was off the computer for a few days, I actually just felt like crap, and had no interest in it at all. Thanks for missing me. So, I took my first pill today at 11am I felt a bit "weird", and got a bit sleepy, or drowsy. Around 3p I got super sleepy. I decided not to take another one since I can every 4hrs as needed since I would need to pick my daughter up from summer camp at 530p, and I thought it might make me even more tired.

I just need to get used to this new med more I think and become adjusted better. Oh, I also have noticed that I jumble my words alot but I think that is more from the Topamax then my other meds...Like I'm drunk, but I am not..

Also, today was a bad pain day for me. So I could have used something that is for sure. I was very grateful that my mom could come over after work for a bit so I could take another pill and lay down for an hour.

Straydog....Thanks and I did do a search and I also saw some of his comments, and thanks for yours as well.Especially about how we all metabolize differently. That is so true for me as well, since having my gastric by pass surgery, meds hit me real quick. I hope your doing ok??

Tina and SB.....Too dang funny...Bacholerette....I can't begin to tell you what I would like to do to Mr. Bentley!!! what a horses behind!!!!! LOL And yes he is back in that hotel room...he needs to just come clean so she can move on!!!

Hi Lucky sorry I did'nt get right back to you I have been feeling like crap. But as far as did it make me sleepy at first it did until I got used to it but everyone feels different when they take new meds I have a friend that says it did'nt do all that much for her but it did help me when I first started taking it I will be asking my PM doctor if he could give me something stronger at my next appointment. I know one thing if you dont have insurance which is my problem right now this med is very expensive $400 bucks for 120 tablets. So I really need to change this med at that price. Well please keep me posted on how you are making out with this med and good luck
