What have you written off your taxes?

Just wanted to let you know I got a great tax deduction this year!

I bought a new tempurpedic.... Oh the joy!
My dr wrote me a prescription for it.

According to my tax guy, because I got the script for it, it could be written off because of my medical needs.

So just wanted to tell ya.
And if you do it, make sure to double check with a tax expert in your area.

Yepper!…We have the same bed, and my surgeon also wrote me a script type of paperwork request, and the tax lady said that would work just fine.

…as you know those beds are expensive, especially if you get the motorized one…..and we did, and it's a double…Split King, so it has two of the motorized units underneath it. This helps me a lot to get out of bed. My sister has one of those chairs that lifts you up to a standing position, and I got to try it. WOW!…I need one of these! ….saving my pennies now….maybe in ten years I can afford one!

Needless to say we spent a once in a life time huge amount on it, (bed)... but it is worth every penny for me, and my wife, as she too is suffering with some back pain now. There are several other types of beds though, and they can be bought at a much lesser amount, so I'm not going to say that it's the only bed in town that will get the job done for a person.

Thanks for the reminder to take advantage of these types of write-offs as many of us need it.

I personally have not been able to write off anything health related because I have not made any large purchases. I do know of 2 people on another message board that got hot tubs via prescriptions and got to write those off on their taxes also.

Trudy, save and add up all those small purchases. Miles to/from dr appts, med and appt co-payments, gym membership if directed by dr, ice/hot packs, etc. If it comes to 7 1/2% of your gross income it is deductable.
Get yourself a big cardbord box and seal it except for a slit in the top, like a piggy bank. (We wrapped it in decorated paper to make it nice to leave out in the open) Every time you come home with a reciept, highlight the item that quilifies (anything pertaining you your own health) and slip it in the box. At the first of the year, open it and count it up. Youll be suprised to what it comes to. Use a new box starting Jan 1st.
We started in May, so we might not make it this year, but you never know. We are still under the income level that my disability income is still not taxable.

I wonder if a bed purchase with a script would be deductible in Canada...I think it may be worth looking into. After you have had the bed for a while could you post if is making a big difference for you?

Oh how I wish I had read this earlier, my dream is to get that bed.  I never dreamed I could get a script for this bed I have dreamed of for so many years.  Now I really cant wait for my next appt.
