Hey all!  Hope everyone had a great weekend!:)

I am getting ready to go on vacation to the Caribbean.  I was wondering, if my rx's have to be in the bottles or could i take my pill box with a print out from my pharmacy of my current prescriptions.  I just hate to lug around all my bottles and I also don't want anyone getting nosey and reading them.  I would obviously ONLY put them in my carry on.  Anyone have any tips?

Original bottles. In addition, look up the chemical name for the drugs (and the generic name and any brands used in the country or countries you are going to visit). I know it's a pain, but it's the legal way to do it. I will be traveling to Europe in September, so I'm in the same boat you're about to board. ;-)

I'm also going to take a "med kit" in my checked luggage with some OTC meds that I know I can probably find over there, but I don't feel like searching for a pharmacy while I'm on vacation. I'm going to put a list of the meds w/ their chemical, generic, and brand names in the pack, just in case.

Once you get to your destination, place your meds in the in-room safe and lock them up. You can't be too careful!

Definitely original bottles. I travel to Europe regularly and must take all my Rx bottles as well as seven supplements (FMS). Not only that but I have celiac disease so take along lots of gluten free snacks for airplanes, airports and so on. PLUS with my chronic pain I take my lumbar support so I can sit. It is definitely a pain but must be done. On our last trip in May I somehow forgot one of my prescriptions in Canada so I went to the pharmacist upon arrival and was given the Rx without having to see a doctor. Not sure how it is in the Caribbean.

Agree...if you're traveling, always keep meds in their original bottles, and keep them on you at all times (wouldn't even keep them in the hotel safe, but I'm probably a bit overly-cautious).

in the bag you check put an empty lock box, so once your in your hotel room
you put all your medicines in the lock box so room service doesn't steal any
of your medicines...just as added security to keep your medicines safe...
make sure to keep your medicines hidden....you never know anyone anymore...
error on the side of caution.

I'm sure you're right about original bottles, but I'd suggest you take along the amount you will need for the trip, not full new bottles.

I don't even trust a lock box not to wholly disappear. I might have labeled plastic pill pouches, empty the bottles into them on arrival, keep them in a travel wallet that ties to your belt under your clothes.

I'm not recommending you break rules, but I've always taken my pills (mostly vitamins) in my weekly pill boxes and just left them in my purse, with no problems. Nobody wants to search an old grayhair woman. I also travel with a couple of Rx bottles with a few extra pills of my important prescriptions, so I have them in a different piece of luggage. Even those I never leave in a room.

FYI, where I live, if you have meds in a pill box instead of the original bottle in your purse, you can be arrested. I think it's ridiculous, but that's how it is in the US. No idea about pill pouches overseas. Your mileage may vary, of course.

All great ideas! Thanks! Yeah, I don't know if I would be able to pull off a pill pouch bc I plan to be in the water most of my trip. But I do love the idea of getting a pill lock box. Can I just get that at Walgreens? I do plan on only taking what I will need plus a few just to be safe. I certainly don't want anything to happen and then not have anything when I get home.

Where are you going in the carribean? Different places have different rules and what they look for.

When I go down to Mexico I go to my pharmacist and get a smaller bottle in spanish to put just what I need for the trip in. That helps me not worry about losing my whole RX in case something happens.

As for a lock box, most hotels provide in room safes and that is always what I have kept my meds in.
