Hi Everyone...Just got back from ortho appt about my knee and left leg....This doc can put a total knee in me without nickel and try to straighten out my leg.  I scheduled it in November so it doesnt interfer with the two racing banquets that Im going to and I have 2 different  dresses to wear at those events.

 

I will be hospitalized for 3 days  and then go to rehab for 5 days and then home.  I like the doctor but cant stand the hospital he operates out of. 

 

All preadmission testing will be done at the hospital which is 15 minutes away. 

 I will donate a bag of my blood in case I would need any refills.  I have to take iron pills before surgery and the day before take a coumadin tablet.

Hi Betsey That's wonderful news that the doctor can do a replacement without any nickel in it, and that you have the day set. How is your pain today? I hope it is low for you. Take care.

Congrat's Betsey! Sounds like a plan! wink

Hopefully it will cure most of your pain problems, and you will be much more mobile to climb those stairs!

New knee doc said that I dont need to do any PT which I thought was strange. I only showw small improvements at a time so maybe he thought it was useless.

By mid Jan. I should be better so Im keeping my fingers crossed.

Tomorrow I will call doc and ask the manufactuer of the knee and the name ofthe knee.

I am scared this is a major surgery and Im flipping out already. i know that I shouldnt worry but is easier said than done. lol

When the date gets closer I would appreciate everyones help to get me thru this operation and therapy.

  Hi Betsey, I'm glad that you will be able to get your surgery soon. I know it's been a long haul

for you. Hang in there and take it one day at a time ok. Do some of your crocheting and beading

to distract you.

I woke up at 3"30 am today with pain in both legs...I was groaning and that woke me up. I took a oxy and a vicadin and now I wait . I decided to log into HWF.

I need to ask the knee doc sec some questions today.How can I decrease the pain in my good knee? What is the name of my knee that I will be getting?How long is the operation? etc

I am very uncomfortable. I should touch base with PM doc also today and call PT and let them know that ortho doc doesnt want me doing anymore PT. I think I will continue PT at home.

I put tiger balm on my low back and both knees last night and it got warm and felt good but boy does it ever smell. Lol. I have to wash the sheets on the bed and my nightie and take a shower. That is going to be tough going up the steps to get to that bathroom.

Thanks to letting me vent. Sometimes I feel like I am going to pop. Lol.

H ere it is 4:00am and I havent been to bed yet because of pain in my tibia.  Yep, this is new pain so I will have to call ortho doc that is near me and see when I can be scheduled to see him soon.

 

I didnt do anything new or do anything that was beyond my limited capabilities.

 

I took a cymbalta,a musclerelaxant,and a oxycontin  so I have been waiting until the pain decreases so I can go to bed but it isnt happening at all.  I have applied ice and then switched to heat.  Nothing is relieving the pain.

 

Im going to go to bed and see if sleep will come to me.  At least I will be prone.

 

If anyone knows what else can give me relief that I havent tried please reply. smurf

Hi Betsy I hope you were able to get some sleep. You could try Tiger Balm, BenGay or IcyHot patches. I'm sorry you had a pain that you didn't have before. Take care. I hope you're having lower pain today.

Congratulations on finding the correct knee for you! It's so important to do the research and get the right piece of equipment. I'm glad your surgeon was willing to do that!

Thanks everyone for replies. I couldnt handle this without my online family.

Im going to bed at 10:30pm because Im tired and I hurt.

I applied tiger balm on both knees and left tibia and my lower back. It certainly is pungent!!!lol

I will post when I know more.

I went to orthopedic doc again to tell him that Im getting increasing pain and tenderness in my left tibia. He said are you sure ntaht you dont have a blood clot? yes im sure. 1 month ago I had an ultrasound of my leg and no blood clots were present. i just have lymph edema. the doc wants me to get a pair of support hose and wear them during the day and take them off at night. How do you measure your leg for support hose? Anyone know?

I see my pm doc on 10-6-11. I hope she can make adjustments to my meds.My good knee has pain.

Wednesday I will call the ortho doc surgury scheduler and ask her what metal is going inside my tibia so it will be straight. I am allergic to nickel.

I am trying to make sure that there wont be any nickel inside my leg.

I need to be an advocate for myself.

Hi Betsey I'm sorry the orthopedic doctor didn't do anything but ask you a question, when you're supposed to ask questions, I thought.

I hope your leg feels better really soon. I don't know how you size the support hose. Sorry I can't help with that. Maybe someone will come along that knows. If not, you might want to start a new post asking and then I'm sure someone can help you. You take care.

Betsey you can buy TED stockings at Walmart, and they're based on leg length and calf size...I believe. I'm sure you could find more info looking online at TED sizing.

As for surgery being set, congratulations! How wonderful to have a date to look forward too. I hope the knee replacement lowers your pain by leaps and bounds.

Betsey, I've been thinking about you. How are you feeling? How is your hip doing?

Support hose are measured a few ways - calf size, calf and ankle size, or shoe size. You can buy them in stores (TED is a popular brand as Becky mentioned), or you can buy them online:

Hi Everyone

  W/C said that my knee wasnt injured in my accident so they are denying payment for my 2 visits with my ortho doc , my allergy test, my pre op tests and my knee operation.  Everything is cancelled until my lawyer gets it straightened out.  i rescheduled it to Dec 30 with pre op testing on Dec 15.  I will wait to see if it ever gets straightened out. 

 

I have mediation before a judge on wednesday with opposing council there and my lawyer.  I understand that opposing council wants to settle.  Of course they want to settle before another surgery comes forth for them to pay.  I have had 3 surgeries on my leg in the past year and I still need a total knee replacxement with PT as an in patient for 1 week and then out patient.  i need a stair chairlift and a caregiver also.

 

I am so frustrated with not being able to go steps, cook, do laundry, strip the king size bed to change the sheets.  No shopping for me...I need a cart with a basket to motor thru stores.
