Anyone on Arthrotec? I've got some questions.

My PM started me on Arthrotec on Friday and I picked it up from the pharmacy on Saturday. I take it two times a day and it is killing my stomach. He put me on it instead of just Voltaren because the Arthrotec has another drug in it that protects the stomach. I have been having massive cramping, diarrhea, and a little lightheadedness and nausea. I know the pamphlet that came with it said that those can be side effects, has anyone else had these side effects? How long did they last? Did you stay on it?
I appreciate any input....thanks!

You need to call your dr and let him know what is going. I would not try to ride out these symptoms especially if it is hurting your stomach.

Thanks...I did call him today because I also started to have bad chest pain- was told to stop taking it. Thank goodness! I feel horrible still, so weak and stomach still cramping, I guess this mornings dose is still in me. I seriously feel like I've been run over by a truck.

I'm sorry you feel so terrible, Hillary.... hopefully, as it gets out of your system, you'll start feeling better....

two more options are voltaren gel, which is OTC in Canada or flector patches which contain voltaren (diclofenac)

I was wondering about the voltaren gel, it wouldn't give me the side effects that the oral medicine does, am I right?

I do not like using patches as I have a really hard time getting them to stay on and then it also means I can't use my heating pad, and my heating pad and I are attached at the hip. ;)

The Flector patches are very easy to stay on as they are big and go right on the area that is hurting...

You need to be careful about using heat too much if you have inflammation....that is when ice is needed....The heat can actually aggravate the issue..

Even with the heating pad....it shouldn't be used 24/7.....so during the off times...something like the Gel or the Flector patch can be used....

Just some thoughts...

Firefly, my PM drs have all said not to use a heating pad constantly as it can add to the existing inflammation. The constant heat can add to existing inflammation and that makes sense. I cannot use ice, it makes things worse so my heating pad was my companion. I did stop using the heating pad as much and I was able to tell some difference after a while.

Thanks for the concern about using a heating pad- I probably do use it more than I should, but I cannot do ice. Ice makes me way worse. The heat is way more soothing to me, but I will try to not use it as much.
