Low BP/high pulse

Hi HW friends,

I just got back from the doctor and my blood pressure was 96/46.  I usually have low bp, but not typically this low.  I don't feel dizzy and doc didn't seem too concerned.  Also, my pulse was 96...which is kinda fast.  Could it be a mix of my meds causing this?  For my pain, I take morphine and then norco for bt pain.  It just makes me a little nervous.  I don't feel bad overall, and like I said, my md didn't seem alarmed.  so why can't I stop obsessing...

I have pretty low bp myself...

The key is standing up slowly.....taking some deep breaths to keep from feeling dizzy...(you say it doesn't happen so that is great!)...

Or...if for some reason you ever do feel lightheaded...then sit down to rest a bit and don't drive at that moment or be careful about walking alone outside....

Since you haven't had any negative effects from it....then there isn't any reason to worry...especially since lower is always better than high!!

It can also be that the machine is off a bit...or the nurse wraps incorrectly or too loose....

The pulse is really not that high either...And most people are a bit high when at their Drs. office....

So....it seems you are doing good...that is to be celebrated...not worried about!:)

If you continue to have that low of reading then your doctor might have you checked for hypothyroid
issues...it's good to be low, but your numbers are very low, I also take norco and mine are not that low
I usually run 106/64...if the top number runs lower than 100 then that is a bit
of concern..just have your doctor keep an eye on it for now...

I just rechecked it again about 30 min ago and today its 94/45.  Even though the doc didn't seemed alarmed, I am still nervous about it. But no surprise there, I tend to get bad anxiety.  And today my pulse is up to 102.  If its still low tomorrow I will probably call my doc's office again.  I just don't want to be that annoying, anxiety-ridden patient!  So thanks for letting my come here to talk about it!

As I've mentioned....my BP systolic number (top one) has been under a 100 for as long as I can remember....I have never had a Dr. have any concern...

Especially since you aren't having any negative effects like extreme dizzyness or fainting....

And also according to the Mayo Clinic...A normal, healthy, resting heart rate ranges from 60-100.....

So even if it's a tad bit above 100...that can be from medication...or you've just walked around a bit...or are feeling anxiety...

Obviously if you are concerned and need to call the Dr. that is fine...

Just trying to say my numbers are very similar and I've never had an issue...

Thanks snowbunny! Makes me feel better knowing that. I just get really nervous when it comes to BP and heart stuff. I lost my dad when he was 43 to a heart attack, so I try to be extra careful. Thanks so much for all y'alls advice:)

I'm so sorry for your loss....:(

The good part is that you aren't showing any signs of even pre- hypertension which is high blood pressure which is what leads to heart problems..

Thank you snow:) Hopefully, my bowels have made up for all my "issues" and will help me avoid heart problems...ahhh if only things worked that way! But all I can do is keep in mind my family history and take as good of care of myself as possible.

KRW just wondering if you are still doing Remicade infusions and how are you with it helping you? I was on it for about three and a half years.

Hi Susie,

Yes ma'am, I am still on Remicade. So far so good...I have not been hosptialized or had any real issues in several months!!! Did it help you? Were you getting them for your psoriasis? I was previously on Humira, but the Remicade seems to be the right choice for me.

My docs are puzzled sometimes because my BP is PERFECT or a tad low, like 110's/60ish, but my resting pulse is around 120, standing is 130ish, and 140's with activity.
I did stop the Vyvance, but I still stay around 90-125.
I know that didn't help a bit but I thought I'd share.

Cymbalta can cause low blood pressure (section 5.3 http://pi.lilly.com/us/cymbalta-pi.pdf).

You are also taking valium, trazodone, and ambien and lortab, which all have low pressure as possible side effects.

Low blood pressure causes the heart not to be able to fill fast enough, hence the tachycardia. When I get low blood pressure tach I take half the smallest pill of Inderal. It stops the tach without affecting the blood pressure as much as other beta blockers. It also works very fast. BUT - don't use this unless you get it prescribed!

Frankly, I would cut my other meds a little before taking a med to treat side effects of another med. I'd do it one at a time and keep a journal. (Again, get your doctors' OK.) That way I could tell which med was causing the effect.

Alicie, thing is my BP is usually perfect. Its just a high pulse. With the meds I'm on, my pulse would normally go down....
