Welcome to the forums....
Sorry to hear about
your pain issues...The good news is that it sounds like you have a good Dr. who is willing to work hard on helping you find a medication to help. As well as having the pain pump as a possible help for your chronic pain..We do have a few people who are using this so they have great information to share about
the process.
Since everyone is so different from their health issues, metabolism, tolerance...etc. It's impossible for any of us to say whether the Nucynta will work for your pain or not.
Each opiate is different in how they affect your pain receptors. So that is why it's really trial/error to see what works to help with your individual pain.
And as I'm sure you know since you've been on other meds...a Dr. will usually start on a lower dosage and tirate up if/when needed compared to your previous medicine.
And not in a negative way...but I really don't put any stock in what others say if it works for them because I like to give every medication a 100% positive go at working for myself.
Obviously it's good to research on certain websites like rxlist...or reading the information that comes from the actual manufacturers website about side effects or any allergic reatcions to watch out for....
So...even if some people said that it didn't work for them at all....it doesn't mean it won't work for you...Does that make sense?
Also...the key with any medication/opiate....is working with your Dr. on finding a comprehensive pain program...An opiate is just one small piece of the puzzle in helping manage your pain.
There should be exercise, PT, aqua therapy, TENS unit, massage, acupuncture, injections, yoga/stretching, counseling, nerve pain medication, muscle relaxer, sleep medicine if needed, antidepressant if needed, eating healthy, maintaining a healthy weight, no smoking, etc....
This way...each thing that a person can do will help it's small amount to add up to about a 4-5 on the pain scale which is what most PM Drs. are shooting for with a chronic pain patient...
May I ask what your pain source is and what procedures or surgeries you have had? If you feel comfortable sharing more about your pain journey with us to help get to know you better...
The one thing that we are really good at doing here is offering empathy and support...Because no matter what type of pain someone has....we can all know what it's like to live with chronic pain...
Again...welcome to the boards and we look forward to getting to know you..
