cant find oxycodone 30mg any where in orlando florida

its been 3 weeks of constant searching, I've been diagnosed with chronic back pain and have been taking oxycodone for almost a year now with no problems! until I have the surgery needed on my back, oxy's seems to be the only thing that helps

Monica sorry your area is having a shortage someone else posted about not being able to fill their prescription as well a month or so back. I am from Canada and as long as I place my order a few days in advance I get it.

I hope this gets sorted out quicky, withdrawal just sucks.

thanks for your response and yes they do, this is my actual first month of not getting them filled..I've had to search before but always found a walgreens.  The tech at walgreens showed me a letter they received about them not getting them anymore and just like everyone is saying, these mom's and pop's pharmacys want around $900 and someting to fill my script of 112

A few questions...

May I ask how many you take per day? Is there a reason that your Dr. does not switch you over to Oxycontin?

What have you been doing in the meantime without any medication?

And did you contact your Dr. in the first week that you couldn't find any?

Sometimes we have to tweak our medications due to costs...or shortages....

I switched from Oxycontin when I had health insurance to now taking MSContin. I use a Sams club.

Narcotics are so highly monitored and usually only prescribed every 30 days so I'm not sure how you have been able to go without medication for 3 weeks....

And the DEA and State regulators are really looking at long term prescribing of short acting medications..This tends to send up red flags. And since that medication is more highly abused (not by you...by addicts)....this is why the shortage is happening.

That is why I'm surprised that if you are taking more than two a day.....after a month....why this Dr. doesn't switch you to a long acting medication.

And hopefully you contacted your Dr. within the first few days of not being able to find this medicine. They should be able to help you find a pharmacy or switch you to a medicine that is in stock....

I am sorry to hear about your distressing situation. I had some issues getting my Nucynta filled at times because it was a much less commonly prescribed pain medication.

With that being said, I've always been able to find a pharmacy that has it in stock.

Would you consider Nucynta 100mgs as an alternative to the 30mg Oxycodone? IMHO, it worth bringing up to your doctor. By comparison 100 mgs of Nucynta is roughly = to 30mgs of oral morphine or 20mgs of oxycodone in potency. It causes less side effects overall at 100mgs or less, but the side effects are substantial at 200mgs so it really cannot be used for breakthrough pain. However, as a primary pain reliever for neuro-pathic pain, I personally find it to work the best out of all the medications I've been prescribed in terms of consistent relief in long term use. I'm still on the same dose I was 1 year ago and its tolerance building has been limited.

I realize each of us have different pain issues and that some medications work better for others. However, it might be worth discussing with your doctor as a substitute.

Hi Monica, sorry to hear you are having such a problem finding your medication. We have been seeing several posts from people in Florida that are having problems getting certain medications and this has been going on for over a year. What are the pharmacies telling you about not having your meds? If its been three weeks I would be contacting my dr and letting them know what is going on and take the script back to his office and pick up a new script fro something different to try. At least this way you will have something to take for pain. It may be something that your meds are going to be difficult to obtain in the future, there are so many now that folks cannot get there.

Are they having a shortage on other doses? 15mg for instance? Ask the pharmacy
Talk to your Dr. and see if he/she can write for double the amount to get the same dose.

Taking more than 2 a day isn't a big deal. Everyone's place they are with pain, pain medication and tolerance is very different.
Even with a long acting med (Oxycontin), I needed a breakthrough med.

I too though a wondering how you've gone 3 weeks with nothing if you're used to taking daily. That's got to be hell.

Nucynta is very expensive if you're paying out of pocket, that's the drawback, however they give "coupons" for lack of a better word for the first three scripts (I believe) that helps with cost a lot.

Get your pharmacy to substitute 3 10mg or 6 5mg. I do it every month. I like the 5mg. Somedays are better than others. I may not need 30mg. With the 5mg I can take less than 30 when I need to. GoodLuck, Cary

   Sorry to hear that you are having trouble finding the med's....but what I'm not understanding...is surely these Dr's know this problem exists down there in Florida...as we see this all the time here on the forum.

     Hope you find a solution with your Dr soon.
