Need help with a decision: Trigger Finger surgery???

Hi, I had a trigger finger injection a few weeks ago and my pinky basically laughed at the cortisone.  My doc gave me two choices, surgery or another shot.  I took the shot and scheduled surgery as a contingency which is to take place in two days.  The cortisone remarkably helped the situation but did NOT fully resolve it.  It's been 9 days since the injection.  I definitely have a trigger finger still but nearly as bad and not nearly the pain that I had after the first shot when it didn't seem to help.  I went through all the motions: scheduling, clearance physical, lab work, etc.  My family doc told me that even though the cortisone helped he said it "probably" won't get much better and it could get worse again.  My dilemma is should I hold off or just go through with it.  I'm curious as to whether anyone has had a cortisone injection for trigger finger and held off for months and the pain got worse.  Right now I'm leaning toward having the surgery and not cancelling because it's very tight in the morning.  I can't imagine it's goint to fully resolve itself.  I also officiate football and I need to be better before the season begins.  I'd hate to wait 6 more months if I'm pretty sure the pain is going to come back.  Once you've had a chance to look into your crystal ball (or if you happened to have pain come back) please reply.  I'd greatly appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks for your reply, Mommie!  I went ahead and went through with it.  Fast and painless.  Surgery was Wednesday and sutures coming out Thursday (8 days).  I last remember looking at clock on the operating table and it was 9:00.  When I woke up in recovery it was about 9:25.  They told me the procedure was literally 5 minutes and they did 2 things: trigger finger release and removal of scar tisue on the adjacent finger from a tendon repair in February.  Who would have thought a tendon repair on my ring finger would cause a trigger finger in my pinky???
