I have had chronic right hip pain for the last 2 years. It got to the point where I could barely last my whole day at work. I have seen numerous doctors and physicians assistants and they all tell me bursitis.
I have a crease right underneath my glute medius it looks like a line separating the two muscles that is very visible. I have had mri on my hip and my knee and nothing has came from it. I am only 23 and to have this pain and discomfort is very irritating. It is very prevelent when I run I cant do a proper follow through on my right side. I am very intuned with my body and it feels like my hip is out of place.
I live in Washington so any suggestions where I can go or who can help me please I just want my life back Im young.
Doctors I have seen
orthopedic physican assistant concluded it was bursisitis from mri.

Hi- I had a severe weight training injury and my hip was just one of the many things affected. My muscles that connect hipjoint and pelvis and glutes with hamstring were torn. I am very in tune with my body also! I know when my hip isn't staying in socket by the feeling of almost a dis-attached limb when walking. I can't feel my glutes fire up. I wish I could get my picture of the excercise to load on and can't. It is hard to describe- but basically you stand on the step with your good side and let the bad hip face away from the stairs and pull it up with your pelvis and it subluxes- pops out- it is not staying in the socket.
I did 2 1/2 yrs of PT and physio. Had 2 MRI's, 1 MRI with dye( an artheroscope) I can't spell it right, 2 CT scans of pelvis and stomach and another of hip area and lower regions. Oh- and another of back. Showed S1-L3 herniated and deterioration, Hip bursitis, Hip inpingement, and disattached gluteal and hamstring, pelvic attachment. Along with other things- I am hypermobile- so my ligaments and joints were affected as well. I am now 39- at the time of injury I was 35 and was 1 week away from a fitness competition:( Being as young as you are it must be beyond frustrating and irritating to be living with this. I show complete empathy.
A family doctor won't be able to do anything and an orthopedic assistant can only do so much. You need to see a hip orthopedic specialist. I am from the East Coast and know of many out there- but not on the West Coast! Hip bursitis is a tricky term and is basically just saying you have a "clicky hip". Go to a Hip orthopedic surgeon and have them repeat your MRI and do some other test. Unless you have a reasonable size labrel tear or a good size hip impingment, or aomething else- their isn't a lot they can do other than send you for more PT and have you wear specialty made orthodics etc.
Short term use of pain killers will help to a certain extreme. Will mask the pain- but not cure it. I have been told my 4 doctors that a full hip replacement is the only thing I can do- I have been putting that off due to the last 3 yrs. I have had severe crohn's flare up's. Surgery for that 1/16/2010 and again on July 2nd. Back surgery 1/25/2011 among a few that I can name. 13 surgeries in the past 20 yrs. Too many!!
I would really look at seeing another specialist for the hip area only. What I did when looking for the best- I looked for a Dr. that had worked on professional athletes. They seem to know what they are doing the best and how to make your down time the shortest. I still have to take Oxycodone 5/325, Oxycontin 20mg 2x a day, estrace, klonopin, celebrex, ambien cr and b-12 injections, steroid injections in my sciatic, piriformis, ilia posias, and finally lastly a new medication for my crohns that I can't remember since I started it so recently.
Sorry my message was so long- I really hope you get to the right Dr. and get things worked out so you can resume your life and be a carefree 23 yr old:) You can probably look the exercise I was trying to describe up on the web and it will show you. Just put in how to tell if your hip if subluxing. Hope this helps a little. Take Care
I took the liberty of splitting up your reply into small paragraphs, as it is very hard to read as one. Thanks! SE
