Hi, Just want to know which are the best medicine to treat chronic pain or is there any therapy would be great.

          ...I really don't think we can answer your question in the way you might expect, as everyone is different, as are the med's to treat them. What may work for me, may not work for you at all. Same with therapy.

     However, it would be nice if you would share a little more about yourself! What is causing your pain?, ...and have you tried any med's for it?..., and if so, what are they?,.. and what is the dosage?

      The more information you share with our members the better we may be able to point you in a better direction for treatment.

Believe it or not, Mark 2012 (may I call you Mark?), lots of chronic pain problems are just diet related. Now, if you have some underlying that you are not aware of, diet changes probably won't help too much. However, I suggest you start a food journal (dairy) where you write down what you ate and if you experienced any complications with it.

As for therapy and medicine, I have to agree with Screaming Eagle. People react differently to different medicines, and it is impossible for me to suggest anything without knowing more about you. Even doctors don't feel right about suggesting medicines when they don't know the full story.

With that said, I hope you feel better soon. Chronic pain is such a nuisance, and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.

jpvn...May I ask what pain related issues are you speaking of that are just diet related?

I can perhaps things related to the stomach/intestine then yes I agree, a health diet of the right foods is important.

And I certainly agree that maintaining a healthy weight is important to not aggravate or add to knee, back, foot, spine issues. But food is not a direct correlation to that type of pain.

Since you are pretty new to the CP forum...it would be great if you could tell us more about yourself and what your pain issues are and what you are doing for treatment...

And to Mark...I agree with others in that no one online can suggest what is going to help with your pain levels. We would like to learn more about you as well...

No single food can completely stop chronic pain, but a healthful diet is a powerful part of your pain-management strategy. The Mediterranean diet, for example, is rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and healthful unsaturated fats. These edibles can help build strong bones and muscles, and -- in some cases -- can even fight pain. A wholesome diet also helps prevent pain-aggravating weight gain and boosts your energy levels and mood so you can cope more comfortably.

Whole grains are rich in fiber, a good-for-you ingredient that curbs appetite and helps you manage your weight. Maintaining a healthy body weight is important to keep chronic pain at bay. Another benefit: Whole grains are a good source of magnesium, a mineral that has been shown in animal studies to fight muscle pain. Enjoy a wide variety of whole grains -- from whole wheat bread to fast-cooking quinoa and bulgur -- to relieve chronic pain.

Enjoying salmon in your diet is a good bet for managing chronic pain. Salmon is rich in pain-relieving omega-3 fatty acids, but it's also a great source of another potential pain fighter: vitamin D. There's a strong link between low levels of the sunshine vitamin and chronic pain, and emerging research suggests supplementing your diet with vitamin D may help ease the discomfort. A 3-ounce serving of salmon has nearly half the RealAge-recommended daily dose of vitamin D: 1,000 international units (IU), or 1,200 IU if you're older than 60.

Now, the above are just a couple of the many diets you can take. Chronic pain is not a result of dietary problems, per se, but they can make a huge difference. IBS is a chronic problem that can cause chronic pain, and it definitely helps.

Yes Snowbunny, I was more referring to intestinal and stomach related chronic pain. Since Mark didn't tell us what type of pain he was having, I assumed that the information I presented was applicable to his cause.

I suffer from GI chronic pain. A proper diet along with meds can usually help alleviate the pain - enough for me to do every day activities.

Thanks for explaining more...I was diagnosed with IBS back in my early 20's....as well as they did an endoscopy and found I had hundreds of tiny ulcers in my stomach and the beginning of Barrett's esophagus because I only have about 25% of the lower esophageal sphincter (from birth they said) so I have to be extremely careful of what I eat and not lay down after eating as it doesn't close all the way so acid can get into my esophagus easily.

I only have trouble with my IBS once in a blue moon as I limit both stress (when possible) as well as I moved to eating all Organic/Natural almost 2 years ago now.

That made a huge difference in those issues as well as my fatigue levels and overall well being. It keeps my weight steady without thinking too much as well.

I am not a vegan/vegetarian...but I only eat lean meats once, maybe twice a week. And yes...I love salmon! Quinoa is wonderful too!...

But getting rid of all artificial food colorings, flavors, chemicals, and those type of ingredients has made my digestion a lot easier.

I do have to use Miralax every so often as the medicine I take is very constipating...but I am lucky in that I have never cared for any type of soda and have been a water drinker since I was a kid. So I drink about 12-14 cups a day.

So yes...I do agree that a healthy eating lifestyle is very important. I just wasn't sure of what you meant when you worded it more generally in that "lost of chronic pain problems are diet related"....

Since this is the chronic pain forum....many people here have things like spine issues, headaches, foot or knee issues...etc. that as mentioned...diet alone will not have much effect on that type of pain but can be for the ones you now mention...

Yes, I understand what are you suggesting now. I believe that a proper diet will help most types of chronic pain (a little bit), but obviously more so with something related to the GI tract.

My days with Miralax are long gone. I get super sick whenever I take that substance. I usually have to take a laxative once every two weeks or so when I'm at medical school, becasue I get really backed up there.
