Hi all! My "home" is the fibro board, but I slip in here from time to time.
I have a question for you that isn't about
me, but is about
helping a friend.
My friend was injured and had back surgery 5 years ago. He claims that the surgery was not successful. He was on another med which I cant remember for 3 years and for the last 2 years he has been taking oxycontin for pain. His doctor must have realized there was some sort of problem and doesn't fill his prescript
ion for a month's supply. He has to go to the pharmacy weekly and pick up just a weeks worth of meds.(rx is for 1 - 60mg tablet every 12 hours) His pick-up day is Thursday. Every Sunday night, he is messaging me or calling me saying he either 1. lost his pill bottle, 2. had his pill bottle stolen, or 3. admits that he took way too many pills due to his pain and is now going to be out of meds until Thursday. I have NOT told him that I take pain medication, I'm very tight lipped about
telling anyone because I don't want people asking for pills. He does, however, know that my grandfather is homebound and has been battling cancer for 7 years. He asked me if I would sell him some of whatever my grandfather takes for pain. I told him gramps takes Tylenol #4, which is a complete lie LOL but I don't want to give this friend any reason to break in to my grandfathers house looking for pills! (I am my gramps caregiver. I live 30 minutes away, but I go twice daily to see him and help him change his catheter, check that he's taken his medication, run him to doctor appointments, make sure he's eaten.. etc)
Of course, there is more to the story than the few points I've given, but for the sake of time I just hit on a few.
I am concerned because I think my friend has a problem with pills. To me, all of his behavior seems like that of someone with a problem. How do I handle this?!?! He gets 14 oxycontin pills a week and admits that he takes too many or, has them "stolen", or "looses" them within 4 days of getting his weekly rx. This has gone on for nearly 3 months now.
I have known him and his entire family since childhood. He is 37 years old, I'm 33.
Please give me some wisdom here folks.
