Hello grandma! ...so glad to hear the grandson is going to be ok!...he is lucky!
Professional photography is complicated these days, and I have found that family makes the worst employees, at least for me. The girl that bought my business two and a half years ago, has almost single handedly destoryed a $90,000 business, and part of her problem was using family members.
Finding responsible shooters is hard to find as well. We cannot afford excuses for not showing up to a 500 sports players photo shoot. I will say, that my best employees were mature single mothers which did most of the paperwork on our photo shoots. We had a wonderful crew!...and around 7 of us working at each photo session. Mrs. Scream and I worked well together, because we were already established with 15yrs experience each. It takes at least 2yrs at best, on a part time bases to train a new photographer. I have trained several photographers and many times, was called to help pros with their own problems.
I have done my time, enjoyed it, ...and paid for a lot of debt, but my body will not handle getting up at 5am or earlier, to set up three mobile studios, shoot all day, process and produce all products in house, and deliver. Scheduling was like playing chess, as we served several cities with a total of 27 directors, hundreds of coaches, and thousands of players and their parents. All of it usually done on the weekends (Sat and Sun)...and week nights. With my career job and the photography, I was putting in 16hr days...and 15yrs of it to boot! Had my health been good...it would have been a great retirement job.
I just cannot see going back to it...I'm hurt and beat.
Thanks for the suggestion though, and I'm glad to see your spirit lifting a little bit.
