Welcome to the boards...
Sorry to hear about
your pain issues...you certainly have been through a lot.
Since it's just your eye that is giving you pain, there really isn't too much more you can do besides treat with medication and/or drops.
Do the drops have numbing medication in them to help at all? My father has had many surgeries on his eyes as well and used drops that contain Lidocaine.
When seeing a PM Dr. for the first time though, he may not want to prescribe you narcotics right from the start or may start at a lower dosage. I would hope that you have already faxed/sent over all your medical records to this PM so they can see what you have been through. As well as make sure they have the records from your GP who has been prescribing you the Oxycodone and the 15mg to 20mg dosage per day.
This way, if he/she sees that you have been on this medication for some time without any issues...(As in running out early, or negative urine tests, or Dr. shopping) then they may be more apt to treating you with opiates.
I just wanted you to be aware they may not prescribe anything the first visit until they do their own physical, read your records, and have you take a urine test. Then start you on something the next visit or up your dosage. Because they get so many addicts trying to just show up and get opiates...this is the reason they are more cautious during the first visit.
The key is not asking for the Oxycodone by name. Just talk to them about
your pain. What it feels like...(stabbing, sharp, dull, zaps, aching, etc) and when it feels the worst.
Depending on the type of pain...it's possible they may want to try a nerve pain medication in addition to or instead of opiates. Something like Lyrica, Cymbalta or Neurontin.
As well as I'm sure encourage you to take breaks throughout the day from looking at the computer screen.
It's really about
developing a relationship between you and the Dr. and having trust go in both directions. Hopefully you will find this Dr. as wanting to help you the best they can.
Again...having all your records there before your appt. and just be honest with your pain and allow the Dr. to figure out the best treatment plan for you..
Good luck and keep us posted!
