     I'm feeling a little pukey the last few days...and have not gotten to many of your post. I do have a call into my Dr to see if we can get an early med change for me. I will post as I can, but will be a little slow until I get these med's straightened out. No sleep,.. and when I do...I have horrible nightmares...patch is a inconsistant delivery for me, and I believe I need to change to a pill form med again.

SE...please take care of yourself first! We completely understand that all of you that are Moderators have your own health issues that you are dealing with daily on top of your own job, family life, and taking time to volunteer at HW.

So no worries at all, even though we miss people when they aren't posting, we truly understand when breaks are needed to concentrate on your own health.

I really hope your Dr. will allow for a med adjustment before your next appt. and that you figure out a better plan to handle the pain.

SE take it easy, rest and look after yourself. It does sound like another med change is needed soon.

As you already know - I think you need a med change. Hoping your doc will try some of the other things we've talked about. Hang in there... the worst is having to wait when you are so miserable :(

Secondly, let's other support you while you are having a rough time... :) We know you'll be back to posting more when you feel better.

Hopefully, better days will be on the horizon... for you, me and all of us.

SE, Very sorry to hear you are having medication issues. It must be a painful roller coaster ride to have relief one day and then pain the next. I have been thinking about you and all of the support you gave me last week, and I truly hope that you get something to ease your pain every day soon. I haven't written in a few days because I too have been a bit depressed. I will post more about that on my thread. Take care. Susan

Sounds like you are going through a rough period there, feel bad for you. Too bad the patch isn't work out well for you, still happy with my use of them, at least for now. Chill and take it easy, probably all you can do right now, we are here for you!

I hate that your under the weather. Your a big part of HW but youve got to take care of youself. Youve really helped me as well as many others! My granpa had a saying that sounded selfish until I heard the explaination.
Here it is. You have to always know that YOU COME FIRST in this world. You have to take care of yourself because if dont, HOW CAN YOU TAKE CARE OF EVERYBODY ELSE???

Hey SE sorry to hear your having problems, there always seems to be a trade off with the different types of med and their delivery. Patches are convenient, and you don't have to keep close track of times and if you took it or not, you can see the patch and if you put the date you put it on, on it then you know that too. But unlike taking a pill, the delivery can be undependable, so many things can affect how much you actually get in your system. I guess it is all on what is most important to a person, and the type and amout of pain they have.  Sounds like you need more consistent pain relief, there are ways and devices that help with taking pills on time. I have a alarm type thing that attaches to my daily pill container, and you can set four different times on it, it fits in your pocket and when it is time for your meds the alarm will let you know. At the end of the day you slide it off the empty pill box and slide it on to the next days box. There are seven boxes that are marked sunday thru saturday and have four compartments in each box.  So if you go back on to pills it might be something to consider, I will try to find it on line and post a link to what it is.  just something to consider to make life a little easier when having to take allot of pills.

Anyway I hope you get to feeling better soon and can get your pain meds straightened out.

…Thanks All!….I will still be here, but just a little slow till I get back in to see my Dr. WB you are correct…the Fentanyl is a wonderful med, but for me it seems to be a delivery issue, and you are so right, that there are many variables as to the success of it. I will never be one to say that it is a worthless med….as many members do just fine on it.

I have a few more options left as far as med's…but once those have been exhausted then we will look at the pump. Right now…I'm not mentally or physically ready for it, as I want to give everything a good chance here. I have a conservative Dr, but do not have any complaints against him….it's just a slow process. I work full time, so that in it's self makes it tough to nail down a consistent pain relief med.

We have so many new members and I have missed several welcome's to them….just wanted to let members know that I'm struggling here a bit, so I may miss a few replies here and there.

I'm so sorry to hear you are not feeling great just now. You are the one that is always here for everyone on here, it's hard to hear you are under par.

Fentanyl has always good for me but I do wonder if in warm climates it old be quite so good. Here in the UK we have no problems with keeping it below certain limits which must be hard during a hot summer. If you are really hot it is known that more of the drug goes into your body etc. not ideal to be struggling like that.

My mother in law has just been prescribed a new drug called targinact, it is oxycodone with naloxone. The idea behind it is that it comes with less of the side effects, ie constipation, nausea etc. So far she has found it to be excellent but I have no doubt they will find faults with it somehow!!

I really hope you will manage to sort something out with your doctor that will work for you, it's horrible to be in the situation you are in.

I am sorry it has taken me so long to reply to your post, I have had yet more issues with my back. In my down moments I feel I may be heading for a failure, not the one that has just been done, but the one done in January. What I thought were spasms, I'm beginning to think are something else. It never ends. Anyway I shouldn't be venting here. Just want you to,know we really understand what you are struggling with just now. Take your time, and hopefully you will get on to new meds and be feeling better soon.

..Thank you Jane!….This has been a bummer of a day for me. Nothing has gone right since late last night….horrible nightmares…hateful people, and then to top it off I went in, to pick up my script from my Dr and I noticed that while he reduced the patch back down to 25mcg instead of the 50mcg,….he put down for 4patches, which is not enough to get me by until my next appointment. However, I know that the patch only comes in boxes of 5, so I thought it was odd. When I got to the pharmacy, the tech mumbled something to the effect of the count of the script written, and instead of giving me 4 patches, he gave me 4 boxes of 5! I questioned him about it, and he assured me that it was correct. NO WAY!…something is not right, my Dr would never do that.

Boy did that ever confuse me! Dr's office is closed and I have enough patches to last me 40days at one per every other day. I hate to call and bother his office, so my wife and I decided to just hang onto them and turn them into him on my next appointment. I even took in the left over 50mcg patches, when I went in to pick up the script, but the receptionist said the Dr was gone for the day, and said to keep them until my next appointment.

My Dr is going to be hopping mad at the pharmacy tech and here I set wondering just what to do. I originally called in because I felt that the patch was dumping most of it into me all in one day, and to confirm that, my wife and I have checked it at the end of day two, and it is bone dry. (48hrs)

I do think you are correct Jane about the heat effecting the delivery, but I do not work in a hot environment, and sleep in a rather chilled bedroom at night.

I hope I have not confused anyone here, and I'm sure my buddy Snowbunny is adding all this up. LOL I will be glad when my appointment gets here on the 13th to straighten this mess all out, and get back on a better track.

Maybe tomorrow will be a better day, cause I sure need it.

I think you can't go wrong with bringing in all the patches that they gave you...I mean..you didn't do anything wrong as you tried to tell the Pharmacist..

So did your Dr. give you pill form of opiates to take as you are tapering down on the patch? I sure hope so, so you aren't in any withdrawal.

And are you now allowed to take them every 48 hours until you see him again or is he making you stay on the 72 during the taper...

Sorry...I guess I'm confused on this as well whether you got to have an actual appt. with the Dr. today to go over your pm needs or was it just to pick up the script until your next appt.

I just want them to figure out things for you ASAP so you aren't suffering so much anymore:(

Doesn't it seem that some days it all does fall apart. I'm sure those nightmares are just awful and set you off for the day on the wrong foot...

I hope tonight is better sleep and tomorrow is a better day!

that quick delievery is one reason my doc changed my patches from 72 to 48 hours, by the 3rd day, there was nothing left. i am in a lot of heat here in SC, and worried now that there isnt much left on day 2.

hope you can get a better day in here, now and then, it sucks when its bad all the time

Snowy…I know if I made a mistake with my figures you would be the first to catch it. All of this has confused me big time today. All of this was done as a call in, so yes…he missed the upping the oral count of Perc's…but I do have a back up to get me by. my next appointment is on the 13th and I will assume that he will stop the patch completely and revert back to an oral med.

You are right…somedays just go to the dogs, but all we can hope is that tomorrow will be a new day…and pray for something to go right. The nightmares, actually make me afraid to go to sleep. The one last night was the worst yet, and I woke up in great fear, and physically strained. At this point my CP has made me almost sick to my stomach…and I all I want is some consistency to my pain relief.

Yes David..were at 111 degrees here today, and have had 29 days in a row of over 100. We already went from the 72hr to the 48hr..and its dumping most all of it on 24 plus hrs. This was the reason I called my Dr, as I knew this was not right, and I almost felt sick at this dose…and then right back into more pain on the second day.

Ahh...thanks for more information...yeah...I am a detailed gal most times...LOL

I'm so glad you have enough meds to help you through until you see him on the 13th...(That's my next PM appt. too). It is really hard to make things clear when going by phone through a third person, the nurse, who then relays to the Dr.

I'm so sorry to hear that it's so bad that you are anxious about sleep but understandable. Having that on top of everything just makes it 100 times worse:(

I think you mentioned that you didn't have this issue until the patches...so I hope it calms down once you are off.

I will pray for a good day and hope that you are not working this weekend and can get some much needed rest!
