Hi

 

Just letting everyone know  my husband is on a clear diet today and then 4 pills taken and he will be on the toilet until everything comes out clear.  Monday is his colonoscopy- he is apprehensive.

 

 

He had beef broth, hot tea, juice and 2 italian root beer ice

 

He is hungery.  Only so much liquid he can consume.  LOL

 

My leg has pain in it today.  Meds take it down to a 6

 

Everyone try to have a low pain day

Hi Betsey....Is this just a regular check up colonoscopy?

I have had 2 of them over the years and yes...the days before are never fun with the clear liquids and Fleet enema stuff...

But the good part is that it goes by quickly during the procedure and even though he is awake...the medicine they give him you don't "remember" any of the uncomfortableness except some minor cramping afterwards...

I will pray that they don't find anything serious..but know if they do...that is the reason people should get regular colonoscopies done every so many years as directed by their Dr. to catch things early.

The things that they can find that are manageable are things like polyps, diverticulitis or diverticulouse. This is where one's diet becomes extremely important to manage this and even get rid of those things. Same with exercise..

So...keep us posted and I hope all goes well!

Thanks for replying Snowbunny. I just needed to vent. He is catnapping right now. At least im no longer hearing (im hungary) lol

Glad he is resting...yeah...it's one of those things that if I'm really busy with things I can forget to eat sometimes...but when it's forced upon you...all you can do is think about food every second and watching tv..I have to fast forward commercials! LOL

My wife also has a colonoscopy coming up... Aug. 2nd. She hasn't started the prep yet, so no complaining yet. Last week, she had blood in her stool and has been complaining about some stomach issues for months. My guess is a bleeding ulcer.

Good luck with your leg pain, must be pretty bad if the meds take it "down" to a six, ouch.

And good luck to your husband and his colonoscpy. I am 60 and have never had one, which somehow slipped past my GP all these years. Being that I have had major cancers 4x in the past year, including my current 4 years with advanced prostate cancer, I am really at risk.

All my doctors have ruled out that I can have a regular colonosocpy safely, due to the extensive radiation damage I suffered when I underwent Salvage Radiation for the prostate cancer almost 3 years ago. They are afraid that there would be rectal wall damage done if one was attempted. Hate the thougth that I could have cancer in my colon, without a safe way to test. THey have talked about doing a virtual test with a scan, but most feel that it would be inconclusive at best.

Hope his goes well, and that all things come back negative.

Thank you for the good thoughts even when you have your own health issues to deal with.

He is awake and hungary. Clear fluids until 3:45 am EST. It just doesnt cut it and fill up the tummy. I cant wait until this is over .

I will post on monday once I know the results.

Yeah, those fasting preps and "cleansing" routines are worse than the procedure itself, lol. When I had my bladder by pass surgery, almost 2 years back,, had to drink a gallon of "Go Lytely". Don't know how it I ever got it done me, especially a whole gallon. I think they even found Jimmy Hoffa back up inside me after that, lol.

Hope he does well, sure he will be good and hungry when he gets done.

Betsey I have to get the full colonoscopy once a year, and as the years go by they don't get any easier, at least the prep that is! The prep is always the worst part. But every time I get one done, they remove several precancerous polyps and colon cancer runs in both sides of my family and I have had Ulcertive Colitis for over twenty years, so I am considered extremely high risk for colon cancer. So I go through the nasty prep every year, but as long as they can get those precancerous polyps early it saves me from getting cancer. I am 61 now and my mother died of colon cancer right after she turned 62, but she would never go to a doctor, and she never had a colonscopy done. Had she done that, who knows things might have turned out differently an my children might have had their grandmother around longer during their formative years. I wish your husband well and hope his coloscopy turns out well!

Thinking of you and your hubby, I had one last year and although the prep was awful I am thankful I had it done. Fill up with the clear liquids is all you can do. One would think in all the advances medicine has made they have found a nicer prep to clean us out eh.

I also had one done, however in my case, the "so-called" medicine didn't work to even relax me. Felt the whole thing and remembered every detail, and to make it even worse the Doctor was about 2 hours late. This wasn't me regular doctor though, he was just the guy who did the emergency gall bladder removal before this. Never did go back to him.

Anyway, best of luck to your hubby today!

We are back from the doctors office. Guess what? His prep was incomplete and he wasnt able to get his colonoscopy done today. Dr wants to do it on tuesday but my hubbys employer needs a months notice to take a day off so todays use of a vacation day was useless.

I cooked a big breakfast for him and his cramping eased up.There was a miscommunication of directions for the prep. So we know nothing because nothing was done.

I hope he gets his appointment for it and goes through it. I know the prep is awful and now that he had a partial cleansing he has an idea of hunger and cramping.

Sorry to hear that...What was the miscommunication out of curiosity? It seems he was doing everything correctly with only liquids and the fleet enema they tell you to get and the Drs. instructions are printed out on the sheet of the dosing the 12 hours beforehand....

And are you saying you still hope he gets to have it tomorrow? If so...he shouldn't be eating a big breakfast....just stay on protein shake or things like that today....

It's always disappointing when you prepare for something and it doesn't go through...

I just watched the last NY Med tv show and it followed a man who was on the list to get a hear transplant...and he was getting worse and worse...Well they call them into the hospital (2 hours away) as they found a heart...get the family all ready...get him prepped for surgery and tell them that there is a really small chance you can go under for surgery but something happens and they have to cancel. Well sure enough...a heart valve tore on the heart they were going to use and the man awoke to the news that it was cancelled:( But thankfully he got another heart from another hospital and he is doing well!

Anyway...I hope your hubby can go ahead and get this done if not tomorrow then in the next month...

I don't know if I missed it...but is this just his regular colonoscopy by age? Or are they doing this because of a concern about something?

I will continue praying..

routine test because of age. It will have to wait until november when racing season is done.

His work denied another day off for him to do this tomorrow? Wow...that is pretty tough if they are that strict..Does he not get sick/personal days?

That is good to know it's just his routine test and nothing is wrong...

After all the worry and prep, what a shame not to be able to go through with it. Growl!!!!! Bet that first meal tasted great to you husband. Better luck next time, sure it can wait till he can get the time off again.

betsy it has to be clear liquids .. Not colored .... none of the things you gave him  no beef broth, hot tea, juice and 2 italian root beer ice.....

 

he needs clear liquid chicken broth mainly jello, clear juice and Popsicle  and the day of the colonoscopy nothing to eat at all......

didnt the dr give you a prep to drink

He was told beef broth, hot tea, juice the day before and nothing 6 hours before procedure. He was also told dont swallow the gallon mixture that his young Dr doesnt want his patients to go thru that but to do the 4 pills. Nothing was written down and all told over the phone.

He has a pounding headache tonight, pain in upper back and in his pectorial muscles.

I gave him tylenol.

Betsy sorry he and you will have to endure another go at this. I was surprised as well at his diet because I was on the drink a gallon and only clear liquids like apple juice. I guess different countries things are different. They found polyp when they did mine but I am still good for another 4 years.
Hope your hubby has recuperated and is back to his normal for you today.
