constant pain head and back

My husband woke up from his 4th back surgery 20 months ago with a horrible headache. It starts at the neck and goes to his forehead. We have seen 26 doctors now and no one can help. They are suggesting the Diamond Headache clinic in Chicago or the Mayo Clinic in AZ. I have read a lot of reviews on Diamond and it seems it works best for migraines. My husbands pain is not a migrane. It is a burning headache that NEVER leaves. It has caused him so much suffering and his will to keep going is dwindling. He is getting very thin because he doesn't want to eat because his pain is always at a 6-10 pain scale. 6 if he is on his pain meds, which he is on 30mg MS Contin ER. His back is not good still and has a lot of pain still. I feel something happened during that surgery but doctors say it can't be a Spinal fluid leak because his pain is even worse when he lays down. Can anyone help us?

Hello and welcome to HW Chronic Pain. Sorry to read of your husband's terrible pain conditon. Sounds really bad. Any chance any of these doctors attributing the pain to some kind of severe pain damage? That is what I am dealing with mostly, and this type of damage will not show up in MRI's or CAT scans.

Not familiar with the Diamond clinic, but Mayo might be a good choice - with their great reputation. How old is your husband, and is he still able to work or having to work? I wouldn't think so with pain that severe, but I know we are going through touch economic times.

I wish the best to both your husband and to you, I know it must be heartbreaking for you to have to watch him suffer so much in pain. My wife is a nurse, and she feels the same way when she sees me having bad pain spells, because she knows' there is nothing she can do for me, accept be there for me.

Tell your husband to never give up hope, though, there must be an answer for the source of this pain, and hopefully, a solution is sitting out there for him.

Thank you David. I believe there must be some nerve issue, but the doctors say there is no way to test the nerves from the spine. I believe they are related the head pain and the spine pain. The worse his back is the worse his head is. To explain how bad his head is, last December he had yet again another back surgery. This time an anterior back fusion. He woke up and his head was more painful than the pain from the back surgery. The fusion was extremely painful, but still his head trumped it all. He is worn down after 20 months of non- stop pain. He is only 48 years old and we own our own business. He works as much as he can and it takes a big toll on him. He has to miss a few days every week and often comes home after a few hours. It is breaking my heart and I becoming less of a strength for him. I too am worn and overly grieved. We will go on, but really need help soon.
